đż From Fallen Leaves to Wearable Art
What colours can nature hide inside a single leaf?
Our Class 4 students discovered the answer through a quiet dyeing experience using Indian almond leavesâfallen leaves gathered from the ground, now holding hidden colours within.
In warm water, the leaves are gently simmered,
releasing soft, earthy tones of brown and gold.
The children twisted and bound their own shirts with rubber bands,
some adding clips to hold the foldsâ
guided by their teachers and simple samples,
as patterns and layers slowly emerged.
They dip, lift, and wait.
No instant resultsâonly a gradual deepening shaped by time, air, and patience.
There is no fixed outcome to achieve.
Each piece turns out differentlyâunique, imperfect, and beautifully its own.
In these simple moments, the children are not just making something.
They are learning to observe, to wait, and to witness how nature gently transforms.
And in the end, each child carries home something more than colourâ
a shirt of their own, shaped by their own hands and experience.
Sometimes, colour is not something we createâ
but something we learn to receive. đż

đż Thank You for a Beautiful Saturday đż
Last Saturday, we welcomed families into our Early Childhood Open Day, and it was a truly lovely and meaningful morning.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the parents and children who joined us. It was a pleasure to share our space and experience these moments together.
One of the highlights of the day was our mantao (bun) making session, where parents and children shaped their own creations with their hands. Afterward, the buns were carefully brought to the kitchen to be steamed, and during tea break, families enjoyed the buns they had made themselvesâsimple, warm, and nourishing in a quiet way.
Families also spent time creating magic strings using yarnâholding the yarn together and gently twisting from both ends, watching the forms take shape through cooperation and shared focus.
During our morning circle, parents and children sang and moved together, offering a glimpse into the rhythm of the day and allowing parents to experience what their children will learn in our early childhood programme.
We are grateful for the openness and presence each family brought. Your participation made the morning special for all of us.
For those who couldnât join us, we hope these photos offer a window into our early years environment.
⨠If you would like to learn more or arrange a visit, feel free to reach outâwe would be happy to connect.

Today we had a lovely visit from students of Motherground Waldorf Shanghai School, who joined our Class 6 students for a meaningful cultural exchange.
Our students welcomed them with songs in three different languages â Wau Bulan, 莊ćç¨éŠŹćĽčĽżäşç夊ć°ćĽčŻ´çąä˝ , and Take Me Home, Country Roadsâa simple and genuine way of sharing a part of our culture through song.
The day continued with a hands-on activity where the children learned to make crafts using coconut leaves. Working side by side, there was quiet focus, curiosity, and many small moments of connection.
Before the day ended, our students also taught the guests to sing Wau Bulan, and this time everyone sang together. The children then sat in a circle for a short sharing, talking about how they felt and asking each other questionsâa simple but meaningful way to close the day.
A warm thank you to our parent community who lovingly prepared nasi lemak for everyone, and also brought a variety of local treats such as yam kuih, onde-onde, and bubur cha cha. Your care and generosity added an extra warmth to the day and gave our guests a taste of our local culture.
A beautiful day of connection, learning, and shared experience â¤ď¸

For many children, the struggle is not a lack of ability.
It is the pace they are expected to keep.
When childhood is filled too early with structure, targets, and constant direction, something quieter begins to fade â curiosity, initiative, the impulse to explore.
Not because the child is not capable,
but because there is no longer space for learning to arise from within.
In early childhood,
learning does not begin with instruction.
It begins with movement,
with play, with time that is not hurried.
At Sasana,
we protect that space.
Because what grows slowly
often lasts the longest â
a grounded body,
a steady attention,
and a confidence that does not depend on pressure.
â
If youâre questioning the pace your child is growing in,
youâre not alone.

Most children are taught to succeed within structure â clear instructions, fixed answers, predictable outcomes.
But the world they are entering will not always be structured.
There will be moments with no model answer,
no clear path, and no one telling them what to do next.
So the real question is not only:
Is your child doing well now?
But:
Can they think clearly,
feel confidently,
and step forward with their own will?
At Sasana, a Waldorf International School,
we nurture these capacities step by step
through our C1âC8 journey.
From Class 1 to Class 8, children are guided to develop:
â˘â â Thinking clearly â beyond memorisation
â˘â â Feeling confident â beyond performance pressure
â˘â â Willing to step forward â beyond waiting for instruction
This is the Waldorf approach:
not rushing children into the future,
but building the inner strength
to meet it.

Waldorf 3rd Grade "Rice Planting" and Farming Curriculum
In the Waldorf education system, the farming and gardening curriculum in the third grade (for children around 9 years old) is a classic and core experience. As children go through the "Nine-Year Change," they begin to transition from the dreamy perceptions of early childhood to a real connection with the physical world. Rice planting is not just an agricultural activity, but an educational process that deeply integrates the laws of nature with the child's mental development.

Weâre Hiring at Sasana International School
Most schools are hiring teachers.
Weâre looking for something more specific.
At Sasana â Malaysiaâs first international Waldorf school â
we are part of a progressive, human-centred approach to education practiced worldwide.
Teaching here is not just about delivering content.
Itâs about understanding how a child grows, thinks, and becomes,
through an education that integrates thinking, feeling, and doing.
Weâre looking for educators who:
- Can hold both academic rigour and human development.
- Are interested in how students think, not just what they produce.
- Want to teach in a way that still matters 10 years from now.
If youâve been teaching in a certain way,
this might be a chance to explore something more meaningful.
Not just teaching subjects â
but nurturing the whole human being.
If youâve ever felt teaching should be more than syllabus and results,
weâd love to hear from you.
