The EmPOWER programme at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia encourages students to engage with issues that matter beyond the classroom. Through their collaboration with the Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA), students have taken part in initiatives that support greater awareness, accessibility, and advocacy surrounding mental health in the community.

Students have raised over RM7,000 through various fundraising efforts, contributing towards programmes that provide counselling, outreach, rehabilitation, and community support services. Along the way, they also gain valuable experience in communication, teamwork, leadership, and project management while learning the importance of empathy and social responsibility.

Let’s hear from Rachhitaa about her internship experiences at Easybook and PwC Malaysia.

“During my internship at Easybook, I gained exposure to both accounting and finance functions, allowing me to better understand how the industry operates beyond the classroom. The experience helped me strengthen my teamwork, problem-solving, and time management skills, while teaching me the importance of asking questions and learning from those around me.

At PwC Malaysia, I had the opportunity to apply my academic knowledge within a real audit environment and gain deeper insight into audit processes and financial analysis. I was also selected to lead the Programme Committee for the Interns’ Reception, which gave me valuable experience in leadership, event coordination, and working collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.

Both internships allowed me to broaden my perspective, build greater confidence, and reinforce my interest in pursuing a career in accounting.”

We are proud to see Rachhitaa gaining valuable industry exposure and developing the confidence, adaptability, and leadership skills needed to thrive in the professional world.
