🐞 Tiny insects, BIG discoveries!

What makes an insect activity truly engaging for young children? It’s not just showing them a picture and asking, “What insect is this?” At Si Bijak, we get those little hands, eyes and curious minds involved too!

Our children explored beneficial and harmful insects through classifying, matching, observing and hands-on sensorial experiences. Along the way, they also built vocabulary as they learned to recognise and name familiar insects.

These simple activities encourage children to:
👀 Look closely — noticing colours, shapes and differences
🧠 Think & classify — “Which group does this insect belong to?”
✋ Touch & explore — making new concepts more concrete through sensorial learning

The King of Fruits has entered the classroom! 👑

Everyone in the world has an opinion about durian... but let's be honest — "orang putih confirm beh tahan the smell one lah"!

This week, our children got up close with the fruit that divides opinions everywhere — and the reactions in class were priceless.

Our children:

🎨 created durian art, mixing and shaping "flesh" onto a durian craft — strengthening little hands while learning the Chinese character 榴莲.

🔪 "cut" and "sliced" a toy durian using real-life pretend play — practising hand-eye coordination, sequencing and focus. We watched their durian-opening skills closely... not bad, not bad, future durian sellers in the making! 😂

👃 touched and smelled a real durian, discovering its texture, its spikes, and yes — that unmistakable smell — through direct, hands-on sensory exploration.

If mommy or daddy saw this Musang King, surely already running to the fruit stall to "makan" one lah!

To a young child, though, it's language, culture, fine motor skill and sensory discovery, all wrapped into one spiky, smelly, unforgettable fruit.

From the classroom to the court, our little champions are learning to aim, throw, balance and try again. With a colourful basket of balls and plenty of encouragement, every shot becomes a joyful lesson in coordination, focus and confidence.

🇲🇾 Favourite activity makes a comeback?

The moment our bouncy castle and colourful tunnels appeared, the children recognised them straight away. Smiles on, excitement level naik, and everyone was ready to crawl, bounce and explore again. 😆

Reintroducing familiar activities gives children the confidence to try more, move more and enjoy the experience in new ways. Every bounce and tunnel adventure supports coordination, balance, body awareness and social skills—all through Si Bijak’s right-brain and sensorial approach.

One Activity? No.

We Prefer LAYERS of Learning.

To a child, today was simply about painting, tearing paper and sticking colourful shapes.
But beneath those smiles, something much bigger was happening.

Every activity was carefully chosen to develop a different part of the brain.

🖐️ Finger Painting Built finger strength, sensory awareness and hand control.

🍎 Tearing & Pasting Strengthened fine motor muscles, bilateral coordination and the pincer grip needed for writing.

🐦 Shape Assembly Developed visual-spatial thinking, pattern recognition, planning and early mathematical thinking.

Individually, each activity is valuable.
Together, they become something far more powerful.

Children understand the world through their senses before they understand it through words.

Before a child can describe what something is, they first need to touch it, see it, smell it, compare it and experience it.

This is how young children begin making sense of the world around them.

Between the ages of 2 and 3, their brains are developing at an incredible pace. Every meaningful experience helps build the foundation for language, thinking, confidence and future learning.

This week, our Pre-Nursery children explored the world in many different ways.

📦 They reached into a Mystery Box, using only their sense of touch to recognise what was hidden inside.
🔺 They pieced together shape puzzles, learning to observe patterns, solve simple problems and recognise different shapes.
🍌 They explored bananas through sight, touch, smell, peeling, cutting and tasting—discovering not only what a banana looks like, but how it feels, smells and tastes while building new vocabulary in the process.

Each activity may look simple.

But inside a young child's brain, something extraordinary is happening.

Tiny fingers are developing fine motor control. Curious minds are learning to observe, compare and make connections. New words are attached to real experiences. Confidence grows each time a child explores, discovers and says, "I can do it."

At Si Bijak, we don't see learning as a race or a checklist. We see it as a journey of growth. By understanding a child's development, interests and readiness, we can introduce the right experiences and the right skills at the moment they are most meaningful.

What if learning Maths wasn't about getting the right answer... but learning how to think? 🧠

When many of us think about early maths, we picture worksheets, memorising numbers or repeating sums.

But for a young child, maths begins long before that.
It begins with touching. Counting. Comparing. Checking. Making mistakes. Trying again.

This week, our children explored simple addition using their own hands and a hands-on learning board.

To adults, it may look like a simple activity.
To a young child's brain, something much bigger is happening.

As they count each finger, match numbers and work through the answer themselves, they are strengthening much more than early numeracy.

They are developing concentration. Logical thinking. Working memory. Problem-solving. Confidence to persevere when the answer doesn't come immediately.

Most importantly, they are discovering that learning isn't about someone giving them the answer.

It's about having the confidence to figure it out themselves.

That's why, at Si Bijak, we believe children don't simply learn Mathematics.

They learn how to think.

And when children learn how to think, Mathematics becomes much more than numbers—it becomes another way of understanding the world around them.

What if the most important learning happening today had nothing to do with ABCs or 123s? 🌱

Between the ages of 2 and 3, a child's brain is developing at one of the fastest rates in life. This is a once-in-a-lifetime window when every experience helps shape the foundation for future learning.

That's why, at Si Bijak, we don't begin by asking, "What should children memorise today?"

We begin by asking, "What does a young child's developing brain need today?"

This week, our Pre-Nursery children:
🌿 explored nature, discovering different textures, colours and the little wonders hidden outdoors.
🧊 investigated melting ice, turning a simple sensory activity into moments of curiosity, observation and discovery.
🐟 expressed their creativity through a fish craft, strengthening little hands while experiencing the pride of creating something on their own.

To many adults, these may look like simple activities.
To a young child's brain, they are building blocks.

Each experience strengthens curiosity, confidence, language, coordination and the ability to make sense of the world—long before children are ready for formal reading and writing.

This is why we believe childhood should never be rushed.

When children are given the freedom to explore, wonder and create, they aren't "just playing." They are building the habits, confidence and love for learning that will support them for years to come.

Because the strongest foundation for learning isn't built by starting academics earlier.

It's built by giving children the right experiences at the right time.
