ANTING IN BIRDS
Anting is the act of picking and putting ants on their own body or under their wings, probably to ger rid of parasites. This was already reported in the first scientific writings of this behaviour which dates back to 1831. American ornithologist John James Audubon described wild juvenile turkeys that "wallowed" in abandoned ant hill. This is the active form. In the passive form, birds disturb the nest of ants and allow the ants to climb on their body. Hard to understand where birds learn to clean themselves of ectoparasite!.

In 1988, Vincent Chow joined Eastern Plantation Agency (a subsidiary of the Johor State Economic Development Corporation) as Head of Research in Tropical Crops. He was stationed at Ladang REM, Kota Tinggi.
