Today I had a great time having this juvenile red-footed b***y - Sula sula. Thanks to identification by Andrew J. Sebastian from ECOMY and update of local common name 'Burung Dendang Laut Kaki Merah' by Akmal Idham from Merimba Semula.

This bird swooped down from a tall mangrove tree from more than 200m away and landed on my hand.

Its a rarely sighted bird as they are usually found living on islands north of Perak.

After checking it physically, its left foot was found to be injured - the web on its feet was torn.

Had made an appointment with the vet in UPM and Perhilitan tomorrow for treatment and further care.

Some people mentioned that this bird had been disorientated by the haze!

In our coastal forest, we find the tall and mighty sepetir tree. The Malay name suggests its feature is so tall that it attracts lightning. The seed pods of a sepetir tree are of circular shape, flat with short thorns that oozes gum. Once you stepped on it you will be transporting it further away from the mother tree until you get rid of it. You become an agent of dispersal for that tree.
