👑♟ FIDE World Championship Match 2026 – Call for bids

The FIDE World Chess Championship Match is the pinnacle of the FIDE World Championship Cycle. The 2026 edition will decide who will reign over the chess world for the next two years – the reigning world champion, 🇮🇳 Gukesh D (India), or the challenger 🇺🇿 Javokhir Sindarov (Uzbekistan). The upcoming clash will be the youngest-ever chess world championship match. Both Gukesh and Sindarov will be 20 at the time it begins.

🗓 The World Championship Match 2026 is provisionally scheduled between November 23 and December 17, 2026. FIDE is opening a bidding procedure to host the event.

Type of Checkmate Patterns

The "Back-Rank Mate" is a checkmate in chess where a queen or rook delivers check to a king trapped on its own last rank (first or eighth) behind a "shield" of its own pawns. It commonly occurs when a king is trapped behind pawns and has no room to move forward👑
♟️ The Rook or Queen delivers the final checkmate, usually from a square immediately straight to the enemy King.
♟️ The mate works because the king cannot escape sideways, often because its own pieces block it.
♟️ It usually happens after a player has castled and haven't moved their defensive pawns.
♟️ A common defensive technique is creating an escape square for the King (eg:h3/g6).

The "Arabian Mate" is a fundamental, classic checkmate pattern in chess, involving a rook and a knight teaming up to trap the enemy king, typically in a corner of the board. It is one of the oldest known checkmate patterns, often featured in historical Arabic chess manuscripts from the 8th and 9th centuries👑
♟️ The Rook stands on the rank or file delivering the checkmate.
♟️ The Knight stands adjacent to the king and protects the rook.
♟️ The knight also prevents the king from moving to the square directly next to it, e.g: if the king is on h8, the knight on f6 stops the king from escaping to g8.

Type of Checkmate Patterns

The "Kill Box Mate" is a specific checkmate pattern where a Queen and Rook work together to trap the enemy King on the edge of the board in a 3x3 square box👑
♟️ The Rook delivers the final checkmate, usually from a square immediately adjacent to the enemy King.
♟️ The Queen supports the Rook by protecting it from capture while simultaneously blocking the King's remaining flight squares.
♟️ The "Box" refers to the 3x3 grid created by the Queen and Rook from which the King cannot escape.
♟️ The Positioning typically involves the Queen being a "knight's jump" away from the King, covering the squares the Rook does not.
