Day 2 of Terengganu Fly Fest 2026 officially began, and this time we split ourselves into two teams for the fly fishing competition.
๐น Team AA โ Nic, Janice & Clevin
๐น Team BB โ Dron, Brandon & Otto
Before the competition started, we took the opportunity to showcase some of our flagship fly rods for participants and visitors to test out. Among the rods available were:
๐ฃ Vision XO Graphene Fly Rod
๐ฃ Vision XO First Generation Fly Rod
๐ฃ Vision Onki First Generation Fly Rod
๐ฃ Vision Onkii Second Generation Fly Rod
๐ฃ Vision HERO2 Fly Rod
It was great seeing the crowd testing the rods, exchanging feedback, and experiencing the different actions and feel of each setup.
Once the rod showcase session ended, everyone gathered for a group photo in front of the famous landmark at Kg Betong โ the iconic Sikang Wall. Shortly after the photos, it was finally time for the official flag-off.
Everyone quickly got into their vehicles and headed towards their chosen fishing spots, all hoping to land the biggest Sikang of the competition. For those unfamiliar, Sikang is also commonly known as the Burmese Trout or Malayan Trout โ a species highly admired by many anglers.
Since Team BB had much more experience and familiarity with the fishing locations compared to Team AA, we initially followed them into the area. However, due to limited space and access, the six of us had to split up along the route.
Team AA was guided through a small stream trail that eventually opened up into a surprisingly wide field, almost feeling like we had entered another world entirely. At the far end of the field was the river we had been searching for. Along the walk, the three of us chatted, joked around, and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings before finally arriving at the river.
Once there, we spent some time sharing fishing knowledge and discussing strategies before separating to fish different stretches of water. Throughout the session, we managed to get several bites and follows, but unfortunately none stayed hooked. Although we only had a few hours to fish due to another appointment later in the afternoon, we were still grateful to see some action and finally wet our lines in the beautiful Sikang waters.
Meanwhile, Team BB was having a much more exciting session. With their experience and familiarity with the river, they managed to locate productive stretches of water much quicker than us. When both teams reunited later, they generously shared their stories, techniques, and experiences from the session.
Dron managed to hook onto a solid-sized Sikang, but after a short and intense fight, the fish managed to free itself and escape. Brandon also hooked a beautiful fish, only for it to run deep into the stronger currents and eventually get away as well.
But among Team BB, Otto undoubtedly had the best session of all. He successfully hooked, landed, and recorded a very respectable Sikang from the river. Huge applause to Otto! ๐๐ฃ The video footage truly speaks for itself.
Around 11AM, Team AA together with Brandon packed up and headed back to the homestay, while Dron and Otto continued their fishing adventure until around 3PM.
When the final competition results were announced, Ottoโs fish was only about 0.5cm away from becoming the biggest Sikang of the event! Maybe next time we should stretch the fish slightly longer for measurement purposes, Otto ๐
As the competition officially came to an end, participants slowly dispersed. Some headed home after the event, while others stayed behind to continue fishing and enjoy the free-and-easy atmosphere around the river.
It was truly a memorable experience filled with laughter, learning, adventure, and friendship. More importantly, we learned so much from one another throughout the trip.
Until next year โ tight lines and see you all again! ๐๐ฃ

From 1st to 3rd May 2026, FlyTieCast (FTC) had the privilege of attending the Terengganu Fly Fest 2026. This year, six of us โ Dron, Brandon, Otto, Nic, Janice, and Clevin โ made the journey together, bringing along our passion for fly fishing, fly tying, and the amazing community that comes with it.
Our day started early at 6:00 AM, hitting the road while the sky was still dark. Despite the sleepy eyes, the energy in the car was already building as conversations about fishing, fly tying, and the upcoming event filled the drive to Kuala Berang, Terengganu.
Of course, no road trip to Terengganu would be complete without good local food. Our first stop was none other than Kak Zah in Kuala Berang, where we enjoyed a hearty breakfast of the famous Nasi Dagang. The rich curry, fragrant rice, and warm local hospitality gave us the perfect start before continuing the journey.
After breakfast, we checked into our accommodation before heading straight to Sikang River Villa โ the heart of the event. Upon arrival, we completed our registration, collected our name tags and event T-shirts, and immediately felt the excitement in the atmosphere.
Not long after, we made our way down to the nearby river area where many familiar faces had already gathered. It was genuinely heartwarming to reconnect with old friends and fellow fly fishing enthusiasts once again. Conversations flowed naturally โ from fishing stories and fly patterns to laughter and catching up after months apart. Events like this always remind us how strong and welcoming the fly fishing community truly is.
As the evening approached, participants gathered for group photos and a relaxing tea session before everyone returned to Sikang River Villa to prepare for one of the most anticipated activities of the night โ the fly tying session.
By 8:00 PM, the villa was absolutely packed. Every corner was filled with fly fishers, tiers, and participants eager to learn and share knowledge. The atmosphere was lively yet focused, with fly tiers generously demonstrating their techniques step by step. Participants were encouraged to tie the flies immediately after each demonstration, allowing them to better understand the methods and put their newly learned skills into practice right away.
What made the session even more special was the sense of community. Experienced tiers patiently guided beginners, conversations sparked across tables, and everyone shared the same passion for the art of fly tying. To keep everyone energized throughout the night, meals were also served during the session โ a much-appreciated treat after a long day.
As the clock approached midnight and the crowd slowly dispersed around 12AM, everyone began preparing for the next dayโs much-anticipated fly fishing competition. Tired but fulfilled, we wrapped up the night looking forward to another exciting day ahead.
More memories, photos, and stories from Terengganu Fly Fest 2026 coming soon. Stay tuned! ๐๐ฃ

Hope everyone had a fantastic Chinese New Year break filled with good food and family.
Our doors are officially open again, and we couldn't have asked for a better way to start than with our very first customer, Marco! Thanks for dropping by and being the first to get the gears turning again. Itโs good to see the fly-tying bench busy already!

There is nothing like the adrenaline of a first good catch, especially when youโre a fishing maniac like Blue.
Watching him fish and hooked one decent one really get you pumped! You can hear the excitement on the boat as his father is recording and cheering him through the run and dive.
This wasnโt just a awesome Chinese New Year holiday trip; it's the great beginning of the year of 2026! ๐

What a way to kick off Chinese New Year! We recently hosted a wonderful family all the way from Hong Kong. Their son, Blue, is a true fishing maniac, and his passion for fishing is absolutely infectious!
Even though we spent time practicing his fly casting, the wild waters had other plans. But that didn't stop him! With the full support from his parents, he landed his first a solid 40cm Peacock Bass and a few other beauties.
We wrapped up the day with a fantastic lunch with the whole family. Seeing three generations support a young angler's dream is what itโs all about.
And here we would like to wish every angler Nian Nian You Yu (ๅนดๅนดๆไฝ) โ May you have an abundance of fish (and joy) every year! ๐งง๐

We recently hosted a young guest from Hong Kong with a passion like no other. Before even stepping foot in Malaysia, this young angler, Blue, had already been teaching himself the art of fly casting only through videos!
Seeing that kind of initiative is rare and truly inspiring. We spent some time together on the field to fine-tune his loops and refine his technique on the field.
With his very supportive parents and grandmother cheering him on from the sidelines, his journey into fishing is just beginning. Stay tuned to see how he handled the wild waters of Malaysia! ๐ฃ๐งง
