Reflecting on a day well spent at The Leaf @ Janda Baik for our MIMPJ Toastmasters Retreat on April 26, 2026. It was a perfect blend of strategic growth, creative energy, and genuine connection.

Highlights of the Day
The "Honesty" Problem: Our ice-breaking session turned into a hilarious highlight as we played "2 Truths 1 Lie". It turns out some of us are far too honest to lie effectively, while others were so enthusiastic they accidentally shared way more than just two truths. It was a wonderful way to learn the unexpected layers of our club family.

Deep Dives & Strategic Vision: We kicked off the morning with a formal EGM before diving into a SWOT analysis. Focusing on our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats gave us a clear-eyed look at where we stand and where we want to grow.

Setting the Bar for 2026-2027: We closed our official sessions by defining our goals and priorities for the upcoming term, ensuring we left with a unified vision for the year ahead.

Winding Down: We capped off the experience with a casual dinner at Dancing Fish @ The Campus, transitioning from club business to simply enjoying each other's company.

A Heartfelt Thank You
An event like this only succeeds because of the people behind it.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to:

Kong Howe: For leading us through a productive and insightful SWOT analysis that will guide our growth.

Maria: For bringing the energy and facilitating the interactive theatre activity that got us all out of our shells.

Tatee: For your vulnerability and for sharing your powerful Toastmasters journey, your story was truly the heart of our afternoon.

The Drivers: A huge thank you to the members who kindly volunteered to drive others to the venue; your generosity made this retreat accessible for everyone.

The Logistics Team: Special thanks to Priti and Judy for coordinating our lunch and keeping the day running smoothly.
We are ready to take on the 2026-2027 term with renewed momentum!

MIMPJ Toastmasters Club – Meeting #707 Highlights
Our 707th meeting, held online on 22 April 2026 , was a deeply meaningful and propitious gathering. Under the theme "Earth Day – Nurturing Growth, Inspiring Change", we balanced the celebration of personal development with a heartfelt tribute to our club's history.

Here are the highlights from this memorable session:
Honoring a Legacy: The meeting took a reflective tone as NK Valli delivered the presiding officer's speech, sharing touching memories of the late Gina Lim, one of the founding members of the MIMPJ Toastmasters Club.

A Tribute in Words: Chitirra provided a club update and offered sincere condolences, further honoring Gina Lim’s immense contribution to our community since the club was chartered in 1992.

The "2kg Masterclass": Kathy Chin took to the digital stage to deliver her speech, "2kg Masterclass," blending humor and insight to engage the audience.

Mastering the Unprepared: Hong Soon Loong shared his expertise in "The Art of Impromptu Speaking," providing the club with practical strategies for delivering clear and confident messages on the fly.

Earth Day Table Topics: Chuan Teik Boon stepped in as the Table Topics Master, challenging members and guests with creative prompts centered around our Earth Day theme, reminding us all of our role in "nurturing growth" beyond the club.

Technical Excellence: A special thanks to our evaluators and technical role players, including Grammarian Lim Gim Kim and Ah-Counter Naveen R, for their diligent feedback.

While we navigated the bittersweet emotions of remembering a founding member, the resilience and support shown by everyone perfectly embodied our mission of listening with empathy and speaking with clarity.

What an absolute marathon of inspiration at MIMPJ Toastmasters Club! For Meeting #706 at BAC, we didn't just meet, we pushed our limits to "Aspire" , our Word of the Day.

Our members powered through an incredible six-speech lineup that kept the energy high from start to finish:

πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ The Speech Marathon
Kathy Chin set a fast pace with "Ahead of Time".
Mariatini Othman kept the momentum going with "Mirror, mirror on the Wall".
Muhammad Syafiq conquered the distance with his Ice Breaker, "Reading the Air".
Naveen R added to the strength of the night by sharing "What I am gaining from Toastmasters".
Priti Sanghavi delivered a powerful contest practice titled "The courage to be seen".
Peter Tham brought us to the finish line with his compelling contest practice, "When the machine can think faster than you".

A marathon this size requires a world-class support team. A huge thank you to our speech evaluators, Peter Tham, Mah Kong Howe, Hong Soon Loong, and V. Kaarthigayan, for providing the precise feedback needed to help us all strive to be better. We also couldn't have done it without the technical precision of Judy Lee (Grammarian) and Syed Fadzil (Ah-Counter).
