饺子，源自中国的一种以面皮包馅、形状如半月或元宝形的食物。饺子是农历新年和冬至等节日的重要食品，也是华人餐桌上常见的美食。

饺子 (jiǎo zi) - a kind of Chinese dumpling. They are one of the major foods eaten during the Chinese New Year and year-round in the northern provinces.

根据民间的说法，压岁钱可以压住邪祟，因为“岁”与“祟”谐音，晚辈得到压岁钱就可以平平安安度过一岁。

Red pocket, red packet, red envelope... Regardless what term you use, 红包 (hóng bāo) is also known as 压岁钱 (yā suì qián). It is a monetary gift given to children during Lunar New Year by elders with intention to pass on a year of good fortune and blessings.

The literal meaning of the last stanza in "Shui Diao Ge Tou": People experience sorrow, joy, separation and reunion.The moon may be dim or bright, round or crescent shaped. This imperfection has been going on since the beginning of time. May we all be blessed with longevity. Though thousands of miles apart, we are still able to share the beauty of the moon together.

The Hungry Ghost Festival is also known as the Chinese version of Halloween, (also known as Zhong Yuan Jie). This falls on the 7th Lunar month of the Chinese calender and it is believed that the souls of the dead are free to roam the earth.

The souls can sometimes be up to no good if they are ignored, so offerings are made to appease these restless souls.
