To empower individuals in manifesting their inborn potential for the service of mankind

13/04/2024

In my teens at boarding school, I dashed back to class post-prep, forgetting an item. With a friend by my side, we hurried through the dimly lit corridors, anxious not to miss "lights-out." The school, aged 70, had its share of ghostly tales. Most infamous was the "Green Lady," a fluorescent spectre said to haunt the dorms.

As we passed the canteen, a glance towards the assembly hall revealed two mysterious figures at its steps. We halted, hearts pounding. "Green Lady!" my friend gasped. And then, one of the shadows waved! Terror gripped us, and we fled to our dormitories, fear propelling our steps.

The next morning, under the bright sun, we returned to the scene of our fright. In the daylight, the two figures transformed into innocuous potted banana plants, part of the upcoming Speech Day decorations. Relief washed over us, laughter bubbling up at our nighttime fright turned daytime folly.

Thoughts of ghosts and spirits transformed two innocuous potted banana plants into a couple of ghosts! Ridiculous, isn't it?

Yet, how have we been fooled by our own thinking to see something out there, which actually is not there? Are you really seeing what you are seeing? Or are you seeing what you are thinking? 👀

We look with our eyes 👀 and see with our brain 🧠

🌟 Turning Disruption into Success: A Training Tale 🌟

Arriving early, I prepared the training hall eagerly, ready to embark on a journey of knowledge dissemination. Little did I know, a curveball was about to be thrown my way.

Just before the participants were scheduled to arrive, the company representative dashed in, visibly flustered. With an apologetic tone, he warned me of three notorious troublemakers set to join our session. They had opted for independent travel, hinting at their rebellious streak.

Rather than succumbing to preconceptions, I resolved to greet them with open arms, determined to break down barriers.

As anticipated, the trio wasted no time in making their presence known, disrupting proceedings with objections and diversions. Yet, I refused to be deterred. Instead, I embarked on a playful mission of "linking anything to anything," weaving their disruptions into the fabric of our discussions.

Gradually, objections faded, replaced by curiosity and eventually active participation. By the final day, they were not only advocates for the training but champions, rallying others to join in.

After the dust settled, the trio approached me, humbly admitting their initial intent to sabotage. They revealed that, other than technical skills training, they had successfully avoided attending training for 11 years! In the last 'character building training' they attended, they felt completely humiliated and abused by the trainer; physically, mentally and emotionally! They vowed to never attend such training again.

However, curiosity got the better of them this time, driving them to test the waters cautiously. Their bravery in confronting past demons paid off, leading to a transformative experience filled with learning and growth.

Their story serves as a beacon of hope, illustrating the power of acceptance, humour, and love that speaks to the heart.❤️

🌟 Let's talk about the 'toxic' label we often slap on bosses, colleagues, or workplaces. Could it be that we're too quick to judge? Maybe it's not about toxicity, but about emotional intelligence still in the oven.

Imagine a world where we're all works in progress, still learning how to navigate this thing called life. Sometimes, our actions might rub others the wrong way—not because we're bad, but because we're still figuring it all out.

So, before we label someone toxic, let's sprinkle some compassion and understanding. Maybe they're struggling too, just like us. Instead of pointing fingers, let's extend a helping hand.

Sure, toxic behaviors exist, but what if we approached them with empathy? What if we saw them as opportunities for growth rather than reasons to run?

Let's strive to better ourselves by honing our skills in connection and empathy. After all, life's too short to dwell on toxicity when we can spread love, joy, and maybe even a little laughter along the way. ✨

As the sun began its ascent over the lush hills of Janda Baik in December of 2010, anticipation mingled with the cool morning breeze. For over six years, we had poured our hearts into training sessions for a Malaysian car manufacturing company, and today was no different. My wife and I stood poised for another three days and two nights of enriching sessions. With us were our son and daughter, ready to support the logistical intricacies of our work.

Yet, as the clock ticked past the appointed hour, worry crept in like a silent fog. With every passing minute, worry mounted. Phones were dialled, inquiries made, only to be met with the stark reality: the training was canceled, without warning or explanation. Our hearts sank, but amidst the disappointment and frustration, a flicker of humour danced in the absurdity of the situation. The venue stood pristine, a testament to our readiness, while we stood with hands idle.

Yet, in the face of unforeseen circumstances, gratitude bloomed like a resilient flower. With two nights of accommodation and food at our disposal, we made an impromptu decision – to turn this setback into an unexpected holiday! With family in tow, we ascended to the heights of Genting Highland, turning disappointment into joy, frustration into laughter, and a canceled training into a cherished memory of togetherness and resilience.

If it were you, how would you feel? What would you do?

Once upon a time, I was invited to a prestigious university to train a group of lecturers aiming to become associate professors. These lecturers were like academic superheroes, armed with PhDs and a knack for critical thinking. But here's the twist: previous trainers had bailed out or been booted out because they couldn't meet the high standards of these brilliant minds.

During my interview, the university's representative cautioned me about the lecturers' discerning nature. They weren't just looking for any trainer; they were seeking someone who could match their intellectual prowess and respect their expertise.

Taking this advice to heart, I embarked on my training mission with a humble mindset. I started off the training by reminding them they were the true experts in their fields – after all, they had climbed the academic ladder to the pinnacle of achievement. My role wasn't to lecture them on what they already knew, but to share some valuable techniques and tools that might add a new layer of efficiency and effectiveness to their already impressive skill set.

With this frame in place, I transformed my training sessions into lively, interactive experiences. Instead of bombarding them with facts and figures, I facilitated discussions and encouraged them to share their own insights and experiences. And you know what? It worked like magic!

The lecturers embraced the opportunity to learn and grow, eagerly soaking up every thing that I had to offer. They were so thrilled with the results that they affectionately dubbed me "Professor" – a title I wore with gratefulness.

Word of the successful training sessions spread like wildfire, and before I knew it, I was being invited back to the university time and time again. Over the course of two years, I had the honour of leading seven groups of aspiring associate professors through transformative learning experiences.

What did I learn from this adventure? It's simple, really: when you approach people with respect and humility, they respond in kind. By honouring their intelligence and expertise, I was able to create an environment where learning flourished and mutual respect thrived.

So, whether you're a seasoned professional or just starting out on your own journey, remember this tale of the "Professor" who won over the hearts and minds of even the most discerning academics. Treat others with respect, and watch as they repay you with admiration and appreciation.
