Jason Nash, father of four, started drinking breast milk after the birth of his first child because he reasoned what’s good for babies must be good for adults too. Although his wife isn’t over the moon about it, he’s convinced of its efficacy: ‘I believe it has kept me from getting sick all these years,’ he says.

However, though some studies have suggested breast milk could help fight cancer cells as well as having other uses that researchers are looking into, mainstream medicine remains skeptical.

When quizzed on its benefits for cancer sufferers, Oxford pharmacology professor and cancer specialist David Kerr didn’t mince his words: ‘This is quite bizarre, completely anecdotal and probably complete bunkum,’ he said.

‘It probably won’t do any harm, but it’s unlikely to do any good either.’

But, David, a 42-year old from Brooklyn, disagrees. He first drank it to help with nausea while going through chemotherapy treatment and he’s still enjoying the ‘sweet, ambrosial’ stuff three years later. His friend Joey, incidentally, is drinking it to help with his psoriasis.
