EDD bukan expiry date. Bukan tarikh wajib beranak. Ia hanyalah tarikh jangkaan semata2 sebab tu nama pun ESTIMATED due date.

Between 1957 and 1961, pregnant women in 46 countries were prescribed thalidomide for morning sickness and anxiety. Approximately 10,000 babies worldwide were born with severe deformities caused by the drug. About 40% of babies affected by thalidomide died near the time of birth or within their first year. In the UK alone, approximately 2,000 babies were born with defects, with around half dying within a few months and 466 surviving to at least 2010.

The most striking deformity was phocomelia, where babies were born with severely shortened or absent limbs, with hands or feet appearing to attach directly to the body like flippers. Upper limbs were more commonly affected than lower limbs. The thumb was typically the first structure affected, followed by the radius, humerus, and ulna.

Other deformities included deformed eyes, hearts, digestive and urinary tracts, blindness, and deafness. Additional malformations included absence of thumbs or ears, hip dislocation, heart defects, and malformed intestines.

Babies born with phocomelia typically had petite heads with sparse, silvery-blonde hair. Most infants displayed growth problems before and after birth, and some experienced severe mental deficiencies.

One study found 24 stillbirths for every 85 live births of babies with phocomelia.

May Allah ease the burden on mums and dads who are tested with trauma, grief and loss and may Allah grant healing to them.

Hemoglobin Levels Test; to do or not to do

Photos from Liyana Helmy - Cikgu Yana On Air's post 07/05/2026

Checking your Hb levels during pregnancy can feel like a high-stakes exam, can't it? As soon as that number dips, there’s often a rush to prescribe iron supplements that—let’s be honest—can leave you feeling nauseous or constipated.

But here is the thing: your body is incredibly wise. By the second trimester, your blood volume expands by up to 30% to support your growing baby. This "physiologic hemodilution" might make your Hb look lower on paper, but it’s actually a brilliant design to ensure smooth blood flow to the placenta.

Before jumping straight to synthetic fixes, use your B.R.A.I.N. (Benefits, Risks, Alternatives, Intuition, Now/Never).

Questions to explore with your care provider:
💡 Is this true anemia, or a healthy, normal physiological shift?
💡 Can we look at my physical symptoms and overall trends rather than just one single number?
💡 What whole-food, iron-rich alternatives can I focus on first?

Every variation in pregnancy isn't necessarily a "problem" to be solved. Trust in the way Allah designed your body and make decisions rooted in knowledge, not fear.

In our AMANI Birth classes, we dive deep into understanding these shifts to prepare you for a confident natural birth.

VBAC or Repeat C-Section? Let’s get straight to the facts. It's a big decision, so here is what it actually means for you and your baby.

For Mothers 🤱🏻
✨ VBAC: You avoid major surgery. That means a faster recovery, lower infection risk, and you’re back on your feet sooner to care for your newborn.
🏥 Repeat C-Section: It is major surgery. It requires a longer healing process, a longer hospital stay, and carries increased risks for any future pregnancies.

For Babies 👶🏻
✨ VBAC: Birth is a natural life event designed to prepare them for the world. They get the lung-clearing "squeeze," a hormonal boost for alertness, and vital microbiome exposure for a strong immune system.
🏥 Repeat C-Section: Bypasses this natural preparation, which can lead to temporary respiratory issues and delays in early bonding.

Making informed decisions during pregnancy and birth is an obligation of good parenting. Do your research, weigh facts over fear, and prepare your mind and body.

Trust in birth is trust in Allah. 🤍

Well said.. Can’t agree more!

This is not about going against hospitals and doctors.
But it points to something most women are never told.
When you step into a medical setting, you’re entering a system designed to manage risk and complications.

And because of that, many procedures are introduced “just in case”, not always because something is wrong in that moment.

Sometimes those routine interventions can lead to further interventions…
which then require more intervention to manage.

Many of the routine procedures done to women in labor "just in case" may actually cause greater complications that our doctors than rush to rescue us from, as we meekly herald them the hero.

This cycle has been acknowledged in obstetric care itself. The Amenrica Collage of Obstetrics and Gynecologists (ACOG) also acknowledged this issue in their 2017 Committee Opinion titles, "Approches to Limit Interventions in Labor and Birth"

This is not about rejecting care.
It’s about recognising that environment influences decisions,
and decisions shape outcomes.

So the question is not where you give birth.
It’s:
Do you understand what’s being offered… and why?

✨ Inside Blessed Start, we prepare you for that... so you can navigate your birth with clarity, not just compliance.

Start today if you want to feel informed before
you’re in that moment.
