In June this year, our Malaysian government made an announcement to abolish and replace the mandatory death penalty, with alternative sentences, subject to the discretion of the Courts.

Needless to say, this shift would carry material impact in relation to more than 30 offences, amongst others, murder, and drug trafficking, and affect the lives of at least 1,341 inmates who are currently held on death row.

This shift is underway and welcomed by many, as it is in line with the fundamental tenets of human rights and dignity, representing a step taken by our country towards improving its criminal justice system.

Amicus Curiae Moot Sub-Committee is back with another exciting Mini Moot series, to provide participants an opportunity to experience theoretical and practical application of the law in a setting akin to a real life court proceeding. Spoiler alert, the Moot Question this time is on Springboard Injunctions!

Wondering what is a Springboard Injunction? Worry not as we have invited seasoned practitioner, Mr. Kenny Lam Kian Yip of Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership as guest speaker for our Knowledge Sharing Session (KSS). The KSS will provide you an insight into the legal principles, legal procedures and legal requirements to a Springboard Injunction.

As we are aware that examinations are right around the corner, the tentative date for the Mini Moot would fall in May or June, giving you ample time to read on the law and prepare at your own pace! This is a great learning opportunity, so step out of your comfort zone and give it a go!
