A successful frenectomy starts before the procedure. If the tongue cannot move correctly, surgery alone may not achieve the best functional outcome.

Pre-operative myofunctional therapy helps build awareness, strength, and coordination, while post-operative exercises help maintain the new range of motion.

An inspiring programme at the Myofocus OMT Course Kuala Lumpur 2026! 🦷👅👃✨

What makes myofunctional therapy so powerful is that we learn to look beyond the teeth — at breathing, tongue posture, airway, sleep, facial growth and overall function.

Even more exciting is seeing dentists and healthcare professionals from different disciplines learning together. When dentistry, ENT, myofunctional therapy and allied health come together, we can understand our patients more completely and work towards better, more holistic outcomes. ❤️

👶 AN OPEN MOUTH MAY BE MORE THAN JUST A HABIT.

As dentists, we don’t just look at teeth — we are also in a unique position to observe the developing oral structures and recognise possible airway warning signs early. 🦷💨

Persistent mouth-open breathing in an infant may be associated with nasal obstruction or upper-airway difficulties and deserves further investigation.

🔍 Look out for:
• Persistent lips-apart posture
• Mouth-open sleeping
• Snoring or noisy breathing
• Laboured breathing
• Feeding difficulties
• Recurrent nasal congestion
• Restless or poor-quality sleep
• Orofacial or craniofacial signs

⚠️ Research has even reported an association between sleeping with the mouth open and cot death (SIDS) — but importantly, association does NOT mean causation.

Our message to dentists is simple:

👀 OBSERVE
🦷 SCREEN
🔎 RECOGNISE
🤝 REFER

We are not diagnosing SIDS or sleep disorders. We are recognising signs that may warrant further assessment by a paediatrician, ENT or sleep/airway specialist.

✨ Early recognition starts with observation.
