Synopsis:
A true test of one's leadership skills is when in the face of crisis. The Covid19 pandemic has been the greatest challenge to the modern world perhaps since the 2nd World War. The pandemic disrupted businesses and normal lives in many ways and pushed organisations and their leadership to the limits. Surviving this and similar crisis requires organisations to have leaders with knowledge and foresight to see 'around corners' and expect the unexpected. Engineers with their technical knowledge and problem-solving skills are often able to anticipate and prepare for crisis. These capabilities need only a dash of awareness for the engineer to transform from his traditional supporting role into that of a leading player. This session is for engineers who aspire to be future leaders. It will introduce the participant to strategic leadership, the inherent traits, and the lessons from the crisis situations we have observed in recent years.

Biodata of the speaker:
Dato' Ir. Nor Hisham Bin Mohd Ghazali was the Director General of the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia from February 2020 to November 2021. He had the unenviable task of preparing his organisation for the 12th Malaysia Plan while steering it through the turmoil of the Covid19 pandemic - an unprecedented situation loaded with uncertainties. He was later appointed Director-General of the National Water Research Institute and retired in August 2022.

Dato' Ir. Nor Hisham Bin Mohd Ghazali graduated with a B. Sc. In Civil Engineering from the California State University (Chico) USA and later completed his M. Eng. (Coastal and Maritime) at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He is a Professional Engineer (with Practising Certificate), a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia and Hon. Fellow of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations. He is also the current Chairman of the Malaysian Water Partnership (MyWP). In 2021, Dato' Ir Nor Hisham was elected Vice-President of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID).

| Digitalization of Construction 4.0 Community – The Building Information Modelling (BIM) |

Date : 28th April 2022
Time : 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Venue : Zoom

Synopsis:
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is the foundation of digital transformation among the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. In Malaysia, the adoption of BIM among consultant and contractor is still low due to the acceptance of new technology, lack of skills and interoperability. In driving the utilization of technology, the ex*****on in providing BIM training, change in management, contractual arrangement is still in need which brings the beneficial especially in quality, time and cost. Besides that, the application of BIM able to reduce the dispute and prompt to produce an integration which consolidate among stakeholder’s job scope. Therefore, by having this sharing session, BIM able to be introduce and knowledge on data enrich especially on the understanding of parametric digital representation. By covering the overall views of construction life cycle from design, construction, operation and maintenance, the understanding on integration able to be analysed and information in decision making and improve the delivering by predictive analysis.

As the project progressively utilize, the maximum potential of BIM, can be obtain by comprehend complex issues such relation to risk management, sustainability management integration in building and tapping the needs of facility management based on overall construction industry. Hence, this sharing talk will give an overall ex*****on of BIM practices that is possible by the issues and challenges in Malaysian construction industry.

| Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Applications in Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) & Surface Mount Technology (SMT) |

Date : 25th April 2022
Time : 9:00 am - 11:30 am
Venue : Zoom

Synopsis:
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has become a powerful tool for engineers and researchers of wide range of applications across various industries.

The household energy consumption increases year by year. One of the key factors in reducing energy consumption is through efficient HVAC system. Most of the air conditioning design based on the ASHRAE Guideline and rules of thumb. Since CFD was introduced back 35 years ago, many researchers used CFD in their study including HVAC study. Now, the application of CFD is introduced in few HVAC design including air conditioning, ventilation etc. For Dr Mohd Azmi, the session will review the application of CFD in HVAC designs.

In the semiconductor industry, Dr Mohd Sharizal’s sharing will dive deeper in the recent development of lead-free solder and its impact on solder joint reliability, new Surface Mount Technology (SMT) segment for flexible printed circuit board (FPCB), which covers critical issues in the soldering connection between components and FPCB in the thermal reflow soldering atmosphere. The simulation model were performed using finite volume (FV) based and finite element(FE) based, coupled simultaneously in FLUENT system coupling. Dr Mohd Sharizal will also propose the new simulation method for the nano-reinforced solder to investigate the complexity and atomic behaviour briefly, to clearly show the movement of the reinforced nanoparticles in the solder during the reflow soldering process via molecular dynamics (MD) simulation.

The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling provides a practical engineering tool for non-destructive study and optimization of microelectronic components. The CFD study is expected to provide a good understanding for the engineers and the PCB designers in the Microelectronics Industry.

The stage that causes major concern compared to the other stages in SMT is known as the stencil printing stage. The study of pre-stencil printing is performed using simulation software to minimize fabrication costs and time. In this session, Dr Mohd Syakirin will focus on the 3D simulation of aperture filling using lead-free solder during the stencil printing process via the usage of CFD simulation, and to investigate the stencil printing process efficiency at different squeegee speeds and aperture sizes.
