We had a wonderful time playing soda can bowling! It is a gentle yet effective way for children to stay active, engaging muscle groups in both the arms and the core. Additionally, rolling the ball helps them improve gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and timing.

Austin's story is a powerful reminder that our kids carry reserves we don't always see in everyday life. Strength that doesn't show up in assessment. Grit that stays hidden until it's truly needed. Love so deep it can move a child through kilometres of open ocean.
13-year-old Austin Appelbee didn’t pass his most recent swimming assessment. He was unable to continuously swim 350 metres without stopping.
A week later, he would swim more than ten times that distance in open ocean conditions.
Off the WA coast, Austin and his family found themselves in serious danger when their inflatable paddleboards were dragged further and further out to sea. The wind picked up. The water became increasingly rough. Panic crept in. And in a moment no parent ever wants to face, Austin’s mum made a desperate decision — sending her son back toward shore in a leaking kayak to get help.
The kayak failed.
So Austin made another choice.
He abandoned the kayak.
Then the life jacket, which was slowing his progress.
And he began to swim.
For four hours.
Against waves and wind. In open ocean. In waters known to be frequented by sharks. As exhaustion set in and fear threatened to take over, he focused on a single thought that kept him moving forward — trusting God and telling himself:
Not today. I have to keep going.
Eventually, Austin reached shore. His legs gave way beneath him, but he got back up and ran another two kilometres to call emergency services. His family was rescued just as darkness fell.
Police later described his actions as “superhuman.”
The story has been widely described as heroic — and with good reason. But it also highlights something deeper.
Austin did not suddenly become brave, determined, or strong in that moment. He didn’t magically transform into someone else. Those qualities were already present. The crisis did not create them; it revealed them.
We talk so much about resilience. We worry endlessly about whether our kids are ready. Whether they’re tough enough. Whether they’ll cope when life gets hard. Whether we’ve done enough to prepare them.
But resilience rarely feels like courage in the moment.
It usually feels like “I can’t” — followed by one more step anyway.
It feels shaky. Messy. Uncertain. Human.
Austin’s story is a powerful reminder that our kids carry reserves we don’t always see in everyday life. Strength that doesn’t show up in assessments. Grit that stays hidden until it’s truly needed. Love so deep it can move a child through kilometres of open ocean.
When it truly matters, they discover strengths they never knew they had.
Austin is living proof of that.
What an incredible young man.
Kids get to be little engineers as they play with the arch bridge—thinking, testing, and asking big questions like: ‘Will extra pillars and arches make it even stronger?’
孩子们在玩拱桥时,就像小小工程师一样——思考、测试,并提出大问题:‘增加更多的柱子和拱形会让桥更坚固吗?
