Today, a parent shared something with me that really touched my heart.
The child said:
“I want to become a black belt like Coach one day.”
Honestly, hearing those words gave me a feeling that is hard to describe. 🥹
Everyday at the class, we may feel like we’re simply teaching them how to kick, punch, practice patterns, correct their techniques, remind them about discipline, and sometimes even nag at them when they’re not paying attention. 😂
But in their eyes, they are watching and learning from everything we do.
When I first became a coach, I thought my responsibility was simply to teach my students and help them improve their Taekwon-Do.
But as time goes by, I’ve come to realise that we are also influencing the person they are becoming.
So when a child says that they want to become a black belt like their coach one day, it really makes me feel that everything we do is worthwhile.
I would never say that I’m a perfect coach, but I hope that I can be someone my students can look up to and learn from.
From coming to the dojang simply out of curiosity, to slowly developing a love for Taekwon-Do, and eventually having a goal of their own—
being able to witness that journey is already one of the greatest encouragements for me as a coach.
Thank you to the parents for sharing this with me, and thank you to this young student for giving Coach such a meaningful compliment. ❤️
Let’s keep working hard and keep moving forward together.
And hopefully, one day, I’ll see you standing in the crowd, wearing your black belt. 🥋
