Hello Curtinians!

Curtin Oratory & Debating Society is hosting an event called the Intellectual Property Law Seminar on the 25th of September (Saturday) at 10am – 12pm via Zoom.

Intellectual property refers to designs and inventions that are intangible products of the human mind. These include brands, literary works, artistic designs and even music! There are a few areas that pertains the intellectual property law and these will all be covered during the seminar. Our invited speaker, Mr Vinod Mohan, is a lecturer at University of Malaya Centre for Continuing Education (UMCCeD) & Asia e University (AeU), who graduated from University of Northumbria with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law.

Good day, Curtinians!

The Curtin Oratory & Debating Society (CODES) is organising the Argumentative Essay Competition 2021 and all students are invited to participate.
The topics for the Argumentative Essay Competition are:
1. Can smoking be prevented by making to***co illegal?
2. Who are to blame for climate change : Human lifestyle choices or major companies holding power and control over resources and its management?
3. COVID-19 : Do employers have the right to make it mandatory for their employees to get vaccinated against it?

The registration link is open from the 11 May 2021 till 26 May 2021.

Participants are allowed to make a maximum of 2 submissions by filling out a new registration form for each topic you are writing on.

The following are the details to take note of:

1. Word limit of 2500
2. Font Times New Roman size 12
3. Include referencing and citation (more info will be emailed to participants once registered)
4. Submit in PDF file through a submission form link that will be given to you after registration

Hello Curtinians!

SpeakUp Debate Competition is a collaboration event between iMechE and CODES and is open to all students. The competition will be held via Zoom this coming Saturday (15.05.2021) at 10am to 3pm. Students can register in a group of maximum 3 persons. Any students who registered individually will be teamed up with other individually-registered students. Participants are given 15 minutes to voice out their stand on the selected topics plus 10 minutes of Q&A by the judges.

Topics are :
1. Is renewable energy sustainable?
2. AI and its negative impact
3. What are the effects of modern day education in the practical world? / How effective is modern day education in the practical world?

Dress code is formal / semi formal.

Do be reminded that TOMORROW (14.05.2021) is the due date for registrations for the SpeakUp Debate Competition.
