We are incredibly proud to announce that our team of 53 dedicated students emerged as the overall champions at this yearโ€™s 3rd White Tiger Sarawak Interschool Invitational Taekwondo Championship 2026!

With over 900 athletes from 100 schools across Sarawak competing in Poomsae, Kyorugi, and Hanmadang, the competition was fierce. A special shout-out goes to our group performance team, who won the gold medal in the Taekwondo Aerobics category with an electrifying K-pop routine!

This achievement reflects the hard work, discipline, and determination of our students and coaches. We are truly proud of every athlete who represented the school with passion and sportsmanship.

This is just the beginning. We have already started our journey towards the 4th White Tiger International Taekwondo Championship, which will be held right here in Miri next year.

See you on the mats!

The school proudly celebrates a milestone in the Duke of Edinburghโ€™s International Award (Bronze Level) programme, as Cohort 4 (2025) successfully completed their journey and received their Bronze Awards on 24 April 2026.

A total of 11 dedicated students demonstrated commitment, resilience, and perseverance throughout the programme. Balancing academic responsibilities, they invested extra time and effort to meet all Award requirements.

Our Bronze Award recipients are: Elton, Shawn, Fareeq, Marizey, Damia, Sarah, Grace L, Grace C, D**g Hua, Donovan, and Aashtha. Their achievement reflects both individual determination and the core values of the Awardโ€”skills development, physical recreation, volunteering, and adventurous journeys.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to staff and parents for their unwavering support throughout the programme. Their encouragement played a vital role in this success.

While celebrating this achievement, preparations are already underway for the next group. Despite a busy schedule, Award Leaders Ms Pepita and Mr Mike have begun guiding Cohort 5 for their Practice Adventurous Journey (AJ) in May 2026. This marks another exciting chapter focused on teamwork, resilience, and outdoor skills.

The Duke of Edinburghโ€™s International Award continues to be a valuable platform for holistic student development, inspiring students to challenge themselves and grow beyond the classroom.

This week in Standard 6, students explored fictional stories and traditional tales by giving familiar stories a fresh and creative twist. They blended elements of the old with modern ideas, showing creativity and a growing understanding of how stories are built.

After writing their stories, students designed and illustrated their own book covers. They carefully created drawings that reflected the characters and ideas in their stories. This activity allowed them to express their creativity through both writing and art.

To conclude the week, students shared short summaries of their stories with the class. This helped build confidence in speaking while encouraging everyone to appreciate each otherโ€™s work in a supportive environment.

Overall, it was a fun and meaningful activity. The students showed great effort and creativity throughout the week, and each story reflected their growth as young writers and imaginative storytellers.

Feedback from students:

Heloise: โ€œI love writing stories, but my hand hurts. However, because I love writing, I keep going. I love making the book cover and Iโ€™m so happy with my Golden Trio book cover! I love Harry Potter!โ€

Venice: โ€œI incorporated Nee Doh into my story. It revolves around the hunt for the Nee Doh in the woods where magical creatures lure people in.โ€

Joel: โ€œI changed The Three Little Pigs so the pig became the villain. My new title is โ€˜The Three Little Wolves and the BIG BAD PIGโ€™.โ€

The KIS Student Council recently held a charity fundraiser that brought plenty of fun, joy, and excitement to campus. Our Animal Dress-Up Day event invited KIS students and staff to come dressed as animals in exchange for a donation of RM3 or more. The event created an enjoyable atmosphere throughout the school while supporting an important cause.

The main purpose of this fundraiser was to raise awareness about animals in need, especially stray cats and dogs that often lack essentials such as food, shelter, and medical care. All funds raised were donated to Zero Strays, a non-profit organisation dedicated to reducing stray populations through humane methods such as neutering, rescue work, and community education.

On 17th April 2026, the school was filled with creativity and enthusiasm. Many students and teachers participated, dressing up as a variety of animals, from simple to highly creative costumes. It was wonderful to see everyone making an effort to join in.

The fundraiser was a great success. We raised RM1,062.00 for Zero Strays, helping provide care and support for stray animals. Every contribution made a difference.

As part of our PSHE lessons on survival skills, we planned a 2-day, 1-night School Camping Experience for MP3 students. As this was the first overnight camping experience at KIS Primary, it was something new for both students and staff, and we all learned a lot.

During the camp, Year 6 and Year 5 students were given real responsibilities. They prepared their own meals, making bread dough from scratch, tying knots, making fires to cook, and pitching and dismantling tents. They were doing many unfamiliar things while applying what they had learned in the classroom. Together, they learned to be more independent.

One student who stood out was Nobel, an outspoken and confident student. He helped his friends and shared, โ€œAt first, pitching the tent was challenging, but once we worked together, it became easier.โ€

Many students shared how much they enjoyed the camp, with some saying, โ€œI love this camping trip.โ€

For some, staying overnight away from home was a big step. Pouyan (Year 5) shared, โ€œI still feel nervous, but I can manage,โ€ showing growing confidence.

Most importantly, students had fun. There was laughter, teamwork, and positive energy throughout. The camp ended with aerobics before heading home.

Overall, the experience helped students become more independent, confident, and responsibleโ€”a meaningful step in outdoor learning at KIS Primary.

Our Thursday Chess CCA is officially the place to be! With popularity soaring, students are flocking to the boards for some serious mental gymnastics. Newcomer Rokaya loves the challenge of โ€œusing her brain,โ€ while Ethan jumped right in, calling his first session pure fun. For Sky, the motivation comes from home, fuelled by his parentsโ€™ unwavering belief in his talent.

The room is always abuzz with strategy. Uriah enjoys experimenting with various openings and the high stakes of every matchโ€”though he admits he much prefers the winning side! Jake plays the long game, using patience and skill to wait for an opponentโ€™s mistake. Finally, our top player Xavier thrives on intense competition. His golden rule? โ€œThink before you move.โ€

Five of our students attended the Program Kepimpinan Generasi Madani (PKGM), a four-day residential programme organised by the Youth Division through the Sampadi National Training Centre, Sarawak. The programme brought together students from KPM, MARA, and JAKIM schools to develop leadership, strengthen identity, and foster patriotic values.

Participants engaged in both indoor and outdoor activities, including leadership sessions, teamwork tasks, and physical challenges such as the flying fox and โ€œKembara Fajar.โ€ These experiences helped build confidence, resilience, and communication skills.

Eugenia (F4K) developed courage, responsibility, and teamwork skills while gaining confidence in sharing ideas.

Cleopatra (F3K) strengthened her discipline, teamwork, and communication, and valued activities like building Kota Madani.
