The Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Chief Digital Officerโ€™s (CDO) Office is thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of the AI for Essential Digital Skills (AI4EDS) Workshop for students, held on 24 September 2026 at CTF1.

Organised under our ongoing Digital Transformation Seminar Series, this high-impact initiative was fully funded by our strategic collaborative partner, AI Singapore. The session was expertly facilitated by our AI Singapore Certified Instructors, Associate Professor Dr. Abang Azlan Mohamad and Ts. Dr. Mohammad Nur Azhar bin Mazlan, successfully engaging an impressive 500 postgraduate and undergraduate students.

The comprehensive workshop equipped our learners with crucial digital competencies to elevate their university experience:
โž” Practical AI Application: Providing hands-on experience with conversational and generative AI tools tailored for academic studies.
โž” Digital Literacy: Empowering students with essential, future-ready skills to streamline their research and daily learning.
โž” Responsible AI Frameworks: Instilling best practices for ethical AI usage, safeguarding academic integrity, and effectively evaluating output bias.

The Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Chief Digital Officer, Professor Dr. Wan Hashim, alongside Deputy Chief Digital Officers, Professor Dr. Lo May Chiun and Associate Professor Dr. Abang Azlan Mohamad, recently continued our collaborative stakeholder and community engagement initiatives with the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Sarawak.

Held from the 22nd to the 23rd of September, this latest instalment of the lab series is strategically focused on enhancing a comprehensive career guidance system to support and navigate students' long-term career progression.

Building upon our earlier engagements, this ongoing series provides an excellent, high-level platform for educators and key stakeholders to align academic frameworks with the state's digital transformation goals and future industry demands.

The Chief Digital Officer's Office is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of the Mastering Gemini and Gemini Notebook workshop with the Sarawak Museum Department, hosted at our Digital Experience Hub (DEX Hub). Serving as a key income-generating initiative, this session highlights CDO Officeโ€™s commitment to monetising digital transformation.

The session was led by Chief Digital Officer, Professor Dr. Wan Hashim (Google Certified Trainer), Professor Dr. Lo May Chiun (Google Certified Educator), and Associate Professor Dr. Abang Azlan Mohamad (UNIMAS Google Ambassador). The workshop explored innovative ways to fully utilise Google Workspace, Gemini AI, and Gemini Notebook to enhance daily productivity and digital efficiency, as well as defining creative strategies for streamlining daily organisational collaboration.

The Chief Digital Officerโ€™s (CDO) Office is pleased to share the successful completion of our three-day "AI for Essential Digital Skills [AI4EDS]: Train-the-Trainer Workshop," hosted at the UNIMAS Digital Experience Hub (DEX Hub) as part of our ongoing Digital Transformation Seminar Series.

This capability-building initiative successfully trained 92 faculty members and was fully funded by our strategic partner, AI Singapore, furthering our shared vision for digital transformation in higher education.

We were honoured to welcome Mr. Will Tan (AI Master Trainer) and Mr. Norfairus Rahim (Programme & Partnership Manager), who guided our academics through hands-on experience with conversational and generative AI applications designed for academic excellence.

The intensive sessions provided valuable takeaways centered on the ethical and practical integration of AI in higher education:
โž” Actionable Frameworks: Applying AI responsibly while strictly safeguarding high standards of academic integrity.
โž” Bias Mitigation: Exploring methodologies for evaluating and mitigating bias in AI-generated outputs.
โž” Digital Literacy Leadership: Equipping our academics with the vital skills needed to confidently guide and mentor students in these emerging competencies.

Upon concluding the sessions, participants were awarded the official Train-the-Trainer Certification recognised by AI Singapore and UNIMAS, empowering them to cascade these vital skills across our university ecosystem.

On Monday (24 August 2026), we had the pleasure of hosting YBrs. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Sukeri bin Khalid, Chief Digital Officer of UUM, for a benchmark visit to the Tun Abang Haji Openg Digital Centre (TAHODC) and the UNIMAS CDO Office. The visit was marked by fruitful discussions and a productive exchange of best practices as we toured TAHODCโ€™s Data Centre and the UNIMAS Digital Experience Hub (DEX Hub).
