Bestari Tuition Centre (formally called AS Tuition Center) was setup with the primary objective of providing opportunities for pupils to spare part of their time studying in a conducive and inspiring environment.It is meant to be set up as a "real tuition centre" catering for small classes of not more than 15 pupils for each class with the hope of producing quality products at the end of the day. Ever since the inception of the tuition, it has always been our prior objective to cater for pupils in primary schools.But as we progressed, more classes were opened up to cater for lower and upper secondary pupils. Bestari Tuition Centre was also set up based on compliance to the requirement of Education Department especially in relation to the formal syllabus set up by the Ministry of Education. We hope that pupils attending our classes will gain maximum benefits to blend to our motto of "TODAY'S DREAMS,TOMORROW'S GUARANTEES". It started with one class in a wooden residential house. The tuition then had only one teacher. The emphasis then was to cater for primary school pupils. About 10 pupils registered for the first year of operation. In December 1987, a comprehensive promotion was undertaken. Anticipating that there would be overwhelming response, a major renovation was undertaken to cater for the inreasing number fo pupils. Two more classes were opened. True enough, the number of pupils incerased two fold. These classes continued until 1991. Unfortunately, an untowards incident took place. The house was struck by lightning and the whole house was burned down to ashes. Not giving up hope, the tuition was rebuilt within three months. A new building was built which included four classes financed by a loan scheme provided for by Sarawak Economic Development Corporation. Despite the "off season period" the tuition centre received overwhelming response from the public.This was probably due to the small numbers of tuition centres during that time. As time passed by in 1993 a developer came by to propose the shoplots development of the land. It was mutually agreed by both parties to develop the land into a row of shop houses.Construction started in early 1993. Meanwhile Bestari Tuition Centre was temporarily moved to another location nearby for about a year. In 1994, the new shoplot was completed and ready to be used. BTC took possession of the new shop lot and immediately did some renovation to cater for 4 classes.Three full-time staff were employed to teach various classes from primary one till form five. The key subjects offered include Mathematics, Science, English and Bahasa Melayu for primary and lower secondary school pupils in addition to Additional Mathematics, Physic, Chemistry for SPM students. The response towards the tuition had been very encouraging in the sense that BTC at one time, in 2001 hit a record number of intake up to 500 students for the the year. However, during its slump period, the number of students was as low as 150. But on average BTC normally had 250 students in its yearly enrolment. Today, BTC is a brand name in a market particularly in relation to providing tuition classes for primary school and lower secondary school. As it is now, BTC is managed by a family member of the founder.
