Alhamdulillah, our On-Screen Proofreading Workshop (Second Edition) successfully concluded yesterday in a truly memorable way.
Despite the ongoing floods across Kuantan that disrupted many activities, we quickly shifted to a hybrid format to ensure everyone could still join safely from home or campus. A total of 20 enthusiastic participants attended both offline and online, learning practical techniques to proofread theses, journal articles and other academic documents more efficiently.
The workshop was greatly enriched by the expertise of Dr Zaki Ramli, whose strong backgrounds in academic writing and language editing allowed him to blend clear theoretical explanations with step‑by‑step, hands‑on demonstrations. His guidance on real examples helped participants immediately apply what they learned, boosting their confidence to polish their own documents more critically and systematically.
This edition also introduced the use of AI‑assisted tools for proofreading, giving participants exposure to how AI can enhance accuracy, consistency and speed in identifying language errors and improving academic style. By combining human judgement with AI suggestions, participants learned how to achieve more refined and reliable writing outcomes for their theses and publications.
Heartfelt thanks to our speaker, organising team and all participants for their flexibility, patience and commitment to continuous improvement in academic writing under challenging circumstances. May this be the beginning of more resilient, skill‑building programmes at Kulliyyah of Dentistry, IIUM Kuantan.
