Confucius Institute UMPSA Successfully Conducts HSK Level 2 Examination for 38 Candidates

Pekan, 23 August 2026 – A total of 38 candidates participated in the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) Level 2 Examination held at the Chinese Test Center, Confucius Institute (CI), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA).

The examination aims to assess candidates’ proficiency in the Mandarin language, particularly their listening and reading skills, in accordance with the internationally recognised HSK proficiency assessment framework.

The majority of the candidates were staff members from Alliance Steel (M) Sdn. Bhd. (ASSB) who have been undertaking Mandarin language training conducted in collaboration with the Confucius Institute UMPSA. The examination also involved two secondary school students from Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Yayasan Terengganu (SMIYT), Marang.

The participation of candidates from both the industrial and secondary education sectors reflects the continued expansion of Mandarin language learning among diverse groups of learners. It also demonstrates the Confucius Institute UMPSA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Mandarin language education and providing internationally recognised language proficiency assessment opportunities to the wider community.

The HSK examination is an internationally recognised Mandarin proficiency test designed to evaluate the Chinese language competency of non-native speakers. Through the continuous implementation of HSK examinations, the Confucius Institute UMPSA remains committed to supporting Mandarin language learning and strengthening educational and cultural engagement between Malaysia and China.

Afeef Hamizan Breaks into Top 30 at the World Chinese Bridge Competition

CHINA, 15 August 2026 – Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) student Afeef Hamizan has successfully secured a place among the Top 30 participants worldwide in the 25th Chinese Bridge World Chinese Language Competition for University Students.

According to the official Chinese Bridge update, the participants have advanced to the third round, known as the “Bridge Points Competition” (过桥积分赛), held in Fujian, China.

Following intense competition, 30 outstanding participants from around the world emerged as the top performers, including Afeef, who represented Malaysia in the Asian Group.

Afeef was among six participants in the Asian Group, alongside representatives from Vietnam, Indonesia, Georgia, Thailand and Cambodia. His participation on the world stage is a proud achievement for Malaysia and UMPSA, particularly in showcasing the ability of Malaysian university students in Mandarin language proficiency and appreciation of Chinese culture.

Afeef’s achievement in breaking into the Top 30 worldwide reflects his dedication, talent and confidence in competing at the international level, while bringing pride to UMPSA and Malaysia on the global stage.

HEBEI, CHINA, 28 Julai 2026 – Seramai 17 orang pelajar daripada Fakulti Sains dan Teknologi Industri (FSTI), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) bersama seorang pensyarah pengiring, Dr. Aini Norhidayah Mohamed, telah berjaya menamatkan penyertaan dalam Summer School Program anjuran Hebei University, China yang berlangsung dari 15 hingga 28 Julai 2026.

Penyertaan delegasi UMPSA ke program tersebut telah diselaraskan melalui Confucius Institute (CI) UMPSA sebagai sebahagian daripada usaha memperkukuh kerjasama akademik antara UMPSA dan Hebei University serta memperluaskan peluang mobiliti antarabangsa kepada pelajar.

Sepanjang program berlangsung, para peserta didedahkan kepada bidang fotovoltaik dan teknologi tenaga solar melalui siri kuliah, lawatan akademik serta sesi pembelajaran bersama pakar industri. Pendedahan tersebut memberi peluang kepada pelajar memahami perkembangan terkini dalam teknologi tenaga boleh baharu serta aplikasinya dalam pembangunan mampan.

Selain mengikuti pengisian akademik, para peserta turut berpeluang mendalami budaya masyarakat China menerusi pelbagai aktiviti kebudayaan seperti seni simpulan Cina (Chinese knot), kaligrafi, seni mempertahankan diri (martial arts), serta penyediaan dan pengenalan masakan tradisional China. Aktiviti ini bukan sahaja memperkayakan pengalaman pembelajaran, malah meningkatkan kefahaman peserta terhadap warisan budaya dan nilai masyarakat China.

Sebagai sebahagian daripada program, delegasi turut mengadakan lawatan ke Xiong'an New Area, sebuah bandar baharu yang dibangunkan sebagai hab pembangunan pintar dan lestari di China. Lawatan tersebut memberi peluang kepada peserta melihat secara langsung perancangan bandar moden, penggunaan teknologi pintar serta pendekatan inovatif yang diterapkan dalam pembangunan bandar masa hadapan.

Program ini mencerminkan komitmen Confucius Institute UMPSA dalam menyokong agenda pengantarabangsaan universiti melalui penyelarasan program mobiliti akademik bersama institusi rakan strategik di China. Melalui kerjasama erat antara UMPSA dan Hebei University, program ini bukan sahaja memperkukuhkan pengetahuan pelajar dalam bidang tenaga boleh baharu, malah memperluaskan perspektif global, meningkatkan kompetensi antara budaya serta mengeratkan hubungan akademik dan persahabatan antara Malaysia dan China.

HEBEI, CHINA, 28 July 2026 – A total of 17 students from the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology (FIST), Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), accompanied by Dr. Aini Norhidayah Mohamed, successfully completed the Summer School Program organised by Hebei University, China, held from 15 to 28 July 2026.

The UMPSA delegation participated in the programme through the Confucius Institute (CI) UMPSA, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen academic collaboration between UMPSA and Hebei University while expanding international mobility opportunities for students.

Throughout the programme, participants gained valuable exposure to photovoltaic systems and solar energy technology through a series of lectures, academic visits, and learning sessions conducted by university academics and industry experts. The programme provided participants with insights into the latest developments in renewable energy technologies and their applications in sustainable development.

In addition to the academic components, participants also immersed themselves in Chinese culture through a variety of cultural activities, including Chinese knot-making, Chinese calligraphy, martial arts, and traditional Chinese cuisine preparation and appreciation. These activities enriched their learning experience while fostering a deeper understanding of China's rich cultural heritage and traditions.

As part of the programme, the delegation also visited Xiong'an New Area, a newly developed smart and sustainable city in China. The visit offered participants first-hand exposure to modern urban planning, smart technologies, and innovative approaches adopted in the development of future cities.

The programme reflects the Confucius Institute UMPSA's commitment to supporting the University's internationalisation agenda by coordinating academic mobility programmes with strategic partner institutions in China. Through the close collaboration between UMPSA and Hebei University, the programme not only strengthened students' knowledge in renewable energy but also broadened their global perspectives, enhanced their intercultural competencies, and further reinforced the academic partnership and friendship between Malaysia and China.

SK (P) Methodist Kuantan Strengthens Strategic Collaboration with CI UMPSA Through Educational and Cultural Visit

PEKAN, 5 August 2026 – The Confucius Institute of Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (CI UMPSA) welcomed teachers and students from Sekolah Kebangsaan (P) Methodist Kuantan for an educational visit aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration while promoting the Chinese language and culture.

The ceremony featured welcoming remarks by Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Lee Khai Loon, Malaysian Director of the Confucius Institute, UMPSA, and Madam Masniza Binti Muhd Yusof @ Kamarudin, Principal of SK (P) Methodist Kuantan.

A key highlight of the programme was the Letter of Intent (LoI) Signing Ceremony between Confucius Institute, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) and SK (P) Methodist Kuantan, symbolising both parties’ commitment to strengthening academic collaboration and educational development.

In her speech, Madam Masniza expressed her aspiration to further extend the collaboration between SK (P) Methodist Kuantan and CI UMPSA by establishing the school as a partner (adopted) school of the institute. She hoped this strategic partnership would provide greater opportunities for teachers and students to participate in future language, cultural, and educational programmes. She also emphasised her commitment to continuing and strengthening this collaboration through upcoming joint initiatives.

The programme also featured a briefing on the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) delivered by Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Lee Khai Loon, provides participants with an overview of the internationally recognised Mandarin proficiency examination and its learning pathways.

The delegation then visited the Chinese Test Center at CI UMPSA, located in Laboratory 13, PBM, where they were introduced to the HSK examination facilities and services available at the university.

The visit continued at CI UMPSA Pekan with a series of engaging Chinese language and cultural activities. Participants experienced Plum Blossom/Chinese Ink Painting conducted by Ms. Wang Yuru, Chinese Calligraphy by Mr. Miao Guohao, and Traditional Chinese Fan Painting by Mr. Jiang Hanshi. These hands-on activities provided students with valuable exposure to the richness of Chinese arts and cultural heritage.

The programme concluded with a closing ceremony, souvenir presentation, and group photography session.

This visit reflects CI UMPSA’s commitment to expanding its network of educational partnerships while promoting the learning of the Chinese language and cultural exchange. The collaboration between CI UMPSA and SK (P) Methodist Kuantan is expected to continue growing through more joint programmes and initiatives in the future.

Curriculum Development Workshop for "Specialized Mandarin for Technical Professionals" and Appreciation Ceremony for China Volunteer Language Teachers (Academic Session 2025/2026)

31 July - 2 August 2026, Confucius Institute, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), successfully organized the Curriculum Development Workshop for "Specialized Mandarin for Technical Professionals" and Appreciation Ceremony for China Volunteer Language Teachers (Academic Session 2025/2026).

The workshop aimed to strengthen and enhance the curriculum to ensure it remains relevant to industry needs, emerging technologies, and current educational developments. Throughout the programme, participants engaged in productive discussions on several key agenda items, including the e-Course File, Technical Module Development, Volunteer Language Teachers' (VLTs) Contributions, as well as the Assessments Vetting Processes with the goal of continuously improving the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment.

The event also featured an Appreciation Ceremony to recognize the dedication, commitment, and valuable contributions of the China Volunteer Language Teachers (VLTs) throughout the 2025/2026 Academic Session. Their unwavering support has played a significant role in promoting Mandarin language education and strengthening academic and cultural collaboration between Malaysia and China.

Confucius Institute UMPSA Successfully Conducts the Fifth HSK and HSKK Examination of 2026

PEKAN, 18 July 2026 – Confucius Institute at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) successfully conducted the fifth Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) and Chinese Speaking Test (HSKK) of 2026 at the UMPSA Chinese Test Centre.

The examination was conducted under the supervision of Professor Li Lijun, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, who served as the Chief Invigilator and oversaw the entire examination process to ensure that all procedures were carried out smoothly, systematically, and in accordance with the established standards.

This examination session involved two candidates who sat for the Mandarin proficiency test. During the afternoon session, both candidates took the HSK Level 3 Examination as part of their academic preparation for further studies in China.

Both candidates are students of the UMPSA–Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) Dual Degree Programme, demonstrating their continued commitment to strengthening their Mandarin language proficiency to meet academic requirements and enhance their global competitiveness.

The successful organisation of this examination reflects the Confucius Institute UMPSA's ongoing commitment to promoting Chinese language education in Malaysia while providing internationally recognised language assessment services. Through the regular administration of the HSK and HSKK examinations, the Confucius Institute UMPSA continues to play a significant role in supporting students' language competency development and expanding opportunities for further studies and global career advancement.
