Lincoln University College witnessed a landmark celebration at Grace Convention Hall, Mayang Plaza this Thursday March 3rd 2016. 478 students were graduated, while proud parents, friends and relatives watched from the sea of audience members who turn out for the ceremony. Students from more than 15 countries like Myanmar, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Cambodia, Pakistan, Yemen etc were graduated.
The convocation began with the Grand Academic Procession and was declared open by Prof. Datuk Dr. Hajjah. Bibi Florina Abdullah, Pro-Chancellor LUC. Prof. Dr. Amiya Bhaumik, Vice Chancellor / CEO LUC, extended his warm welcome to those present, and introduced the guests of the day, Prof Dr. Salleh Ali Basurrah, Former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Yemen and Dr. Samir A.S Karshman, Consular Academic Attaché of Embassy of the state of Libya. Dr. Amiya congratulated the graduates and said “The personal competencies that got them here was their passion, commitment, tenacity and open minds to learn. All these attributes will be imperative throughout their lives.” He also announced the set up of the Research Centre in Prophetic Medicine.
Prof Dr. Salleh Ali Basurrah shared his happiness to attend this ceremony and said that the students of Yemen graduated from LUC will be good example for other youngsters to build a new Yemen. Dr. Samir A.S. Karshman congratulated all the graduates and urged the students to be grateful to their parents and lecturers. Then the convocation started with the conferment of the Degree to the Nursing students for the programme in Collaboration with University of Huddersfield, UK. This was followed by conferment of degree to the rest of the graduates of LUC.
Dr. Satheesh Babu Natarajan, Faculty of Pharmacy, was awarded with Vice Chancellor Researcher Award for his distinguished contribution in the field of research. Ms.Chang Lai Yee, Ms.Chung Su Chin, Ms.Lee Mui Yung @ Scholastica Lee and Ms. Sharmili A/P Sivagurunathan was awarded with the Chancellor’s Award for achieving academic excellence. 34 graduates received the Dean’s Award.
Prof. Datuk Dr. Hajjah. Bibi Florina Abdullah, Pro-Chancellor LUC, conveyed her heartiest wishes to the graduates and said “LUC look at successful students not only on their academic achievement but also looks at their attributes. It offers a large and liberal education which emphasizes international, intercultural awareness, ethical values, and social activities.” Thereafter she declared the closing of the ceremony. The Convocation Ceremony ended with a ray of hope and joy.
