Malaysian Senior Scientists Association

Malaysian Senior Scientists Association To contribute to the nation through various scientific activities and programmes conducted for the benefit of the public and society.

The idea of establishing the Malaysian Senior Scientists Association (MSSA) was suggested to Confederation of Scientific and Technological Associations in Malaysia (COSTAM) by Tan Sri Law Hieng Ding, the former Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment. A pro-tem committee, chaired by Academician Tan Sri Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr. Augustine S.H.Ong, was thus formed, and after two years

of deliberation, the Association was registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) on 30 September, 2004 with the aim of catering to the needs of scientists who have reached the retirement age of 55 years in Government Service at that time. It emerged that approximately half of the retired scientists, who participated in the deliberation, wished to be involved in projects beneficial to the community without their getting any financial returns, and the remaining ones were interested in consultancy work. Hence, after its registration, MSSA organised programmes in consonance with these needs. The vision for founding MSSA is that Senior Scientists of our country can still contribute to the nation through various scientific activities and programmes conducted for the benefit of the public and society.
