e, University of Malaya. The unit is a learning laboratory which provides excellent learning opportunities for the medical, nursing and postgraduate students to practice basic and specific clinical skills either independently or mediated by teaching staff and the provision of computer aided teaching programs. The models and manikins that are available in the clinical skill units are designed to support the clinical skills that are required to be learned during the medical training and to ensure that the program outcome of is met. The clinical skills that can be learn in the clinical skill lab covers the psychomotor, cognitive and affective domain. The active learning experiences in the clinical skills unit and the enhancement of the scientific principles in the technical skills prepare the student for real life situation and the ability to engage in self directed learning activities. The learning activities allow the student to engage in repeated practice of a particular clinical skill until a competency is reached to perform the same clinical procedure on real patients. This will ensure that the graduates produced at the end of the program is knowledgeable and safe. Vision
The clinical skills unit is committed to promote effective methods of teaching and learning of clinical skills for the undergraduate medical program. Activities will focus on three main areas, the clinical skills sessions, the objective structured clinical exams (OSCE) and simulated patients. Objective
To facilatate high quality teaching and learning activity. To provide reliable, valid and practical procedures for assessment and competency in clinical skills. To promote lifelong learning skills and self directed learning. To promote the development of integrated learning and teaching using a variety of media including simulated patients, manikins, advanced simulators and video feedback. To develop, practice and demonstrate the interpersonal skills which is very important in physician-patient relationship. To integrate the learning of practical clinical skills with the skills of communication and team working.
