Professor Emeritus Dr. Saedah Siraj is a distinguished academic leader in curriculum development, serving as Professor of Curriculum Development at the Faculty of Education, University of Malaya (UM), where she also holds the title of Honorary Professor. She was conferred the Malay Language Academic Laureate in 2019 and recognised as Ikon Wanita Pendidikan Malaysia in 2022.
With over four decades of service as an educator, Professor Saedah served as Dean of the Faculty of Education from 2009 to 2014 and was the founding Director of the University of Malaya Centre for Family Development, established in 2003. She earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Pittsburgh in 1990.
Her research expertise spans future curriculum design, innovation of models and modules for mobile learning (mLearning), empirical methods in futures studies, instruction and learning quality, literacy education for indigenous communities, and education for ageing populations. She is the principal author of seminal works such as ๐๐ถ๐ณ๐ช๐ฌ๐ถ๐ญ๐ถ๐ฎ ๐๐ข๐ด๐ข ๐๐ฆ๐ฑ๐ข๐ฏ (Future Curriculum), ๐๐ข๐ซ๐ช๐ข๐ฏ ๐๐ข๐ด๐ข ๐๐ฆ๐ฑ๐ข๐ฏ ๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ฎ ๐๐ฆ๐ฏ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ข๐ฏ๐จ๐ข๐ฏ ๐๐ถ๐ณ๐ช๐ฌ๐ถ๐ญ๐ถ๐ฎ (Future Studies in Curriculum Development), ๐๐ฆ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ถ๐ฌ ๐๐ถ๐ณ๐ช๐ฌ๐ถ๐ญ๐ถ๐ฎ: ๐๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ณ๐ช ๐๐ณ๐ข๐ฌ๐ต๐ช๐ด (Curriculum Design: Theory and Practice), and ๐๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ช๐ฅ๐ช๐ฌ๐ข๐ฏ ๐๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ-๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ฌ
(Childrenโs Education). She has also served as Chief Editor for mLearning: A New Dimension of Curriculum Advancement and Cognition and Learning: Issues and Strategies, alongside publishing over 150 articles in local and international journals.
A pioneer in Asiaโs mLearning research, Professor Saedah hosted and chaired the regionโs first international conference on mLearning in 2002. She is also recognised for introducing and advancing the application of futures studies in education in Malaysia.
Drawing from her vast expertise, groundbreaking research, and extensive leadership experience, Professor Saedahโs role as Adjunct Professor will significantly contribute to strengthening AIUโs academic programmes, research capacity, and its mission to shape impactful educators and scholars.
