(Sharing something I wrote to a teacher who was feeling down.)
What really IS a good teacher?
I think this is relative. To me, it’s one who shows up, who tries their best in the given situation, who never gives up and most importantly, it’s one who cares about the students.
Teaching a classroom of 30 students is challenging, unlike teaching a single or two students. The classroom is dynamic, students have moods too and their own learning issues. When in a classroom, a teacher cannot control the entire environment nor the students’ behaviours.
A good teacher can only ever engage the class partially and can only ever click with half the class. Due to the different academic capabilities of the class, again a teacher can only cater to a certain level. Meaning, there will always be a group of students who are left behind because the teacher has to engage the majority, whichever level that may be.
This same teacher has to walk in and out of various classes , adapting to each class and group of students, with the sole aim of delivering a lesson effectively. If you really think about it, isn’t a good teacher superhuman? Parents can’t even handle 2-3 kids who misbehave, yet, teachers have to handle 30 or more students per class and still ensure they’ve progressed by the end of an academic year.
At the end of the day, there is no perfect teacher. A good teacher just tries their level best. And that’s what you’re doing!

This boy came to me when he was only 9yrs old and could not speak English. I guided him to an A for UPSR 3 years ago and yesterday his mother proudly sent me his results before 9am! Again, both Maths and English are As. Great work JY! 💪🏻

I’ve been teaching this student since UPSR and yesterday I received his results. It came as no surprise as he is diligent and he had been prepped properly before the PT3 exam, managed As in both subjects that we teach here even with the change of exam format. Well done D! 👍🏼

Over the past decade I’ve worked with several slow learners and I always tell them to work hard and never give up, as through diligence, perseverance and determination comes success. If one fails, get up, and do it all over again with vigour. With such an attitude, one will eventually achieve success. Never give up 💪🏻
Malaysian law student, who failed 18 times, finally graduates | Malay Mail PETALING JAYA, Oct 4 — If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again is a motto that has served law student Muhammad Rafiq Izzat Zaidi well. After failing his degree 18 times, the self-described slow learner revealed that it would take him three attempts to pass one subject at university....
Wishing all my PT3 students lots of luck, exams start next week. 💪🏻

I’ve been teaching English and Maths for the past decade. Helped numerous weak students from all kinds of backgrounds, some from Chinese schools and some from Kebangsaan schools. Many of my students have been with me for 4-5years, I’ve helped them go from D to A grades, some from F to A.
I teach students from Primary 3 all the way to SPM level and also IGCSE.
Maths lessons are 2hrs/week while English classes are 1.5hrs/week.
This is not a tuition centre, I teach in my house in USJ and give very personalised attention to every student at their pace. Classes are in small groups, 4-6 students only to provide quality effective teaching.
In the mornings, I teach in a private school and in the evenings, I tutor students at home.
Feel free to PM me for a trial lesson.
