IGS coordinates all graduate studies in the University of Malaya. It draws on the strengths of other Faculties with diverse programmes and research facilities as well as on individual expertise available in the University. As an academic institute offering its own programmes (Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy), IGS encourages interdisciplinary study as a response to the multitude of problems faced by the modern world. The number of graduate students has increased significantly over the years. Currently, there are more than 11,000 postgraduate students in the university and about 3,600 international students from more than 80 countries. The Institute of Graduate Studies is proud of its tradition of excellence in research and scholarship.
