The School Disaster Preparedness Initiative (Sekolah SAFVE) was successfully conducted last Friday at Sekolah Agama Rakyat KAFA Integrasi Kampung Sungai Serai, Hulu Langat.

The programme, which ran in two parallel sessions, focused on different target groups.
For the students, the activities introduced them to various types of hazards and disasters, items found in a disaster kit, and the importance of following teachers’ or parents’ instructions during an evacuation process.

For the teachers, administrators, and the school disaster committee, the session covered early-warning monitoring tools, including relevant websites and applications, as well as a guided workshop to develop the school’s emergency action plan.

Overall, this programme aims to strengthen disaster preparedness not only among students and school staff, but also within the wider community—particularly parents living in the surrounding areas—so they can be safer, more prepared, and more resilient during emergencies.

Thank you to everyone involved. May the knowledge shared and the discussions held bring lasting benefits to all.

Welcome to a brand-new chapter of your life at Malaysia’s national university! Orientation week is filled with excitement, new friends, new experiences, and a new environment. But in all the fun and busyness, don’t forget one thing: your SAFETY.

Here’s how you can practice it during orientation week:
✅ Stay hydrated – Long hours under the sun can cause heat stress. Carry your water bottle everywhere.
✅ Know your exits – Whether it’s the lecture hall, hostel, or sports complex, take note of fire exits and assembly points.
✅ Keep your belongings secure – Crowds can be overwhelming. A little awareness prevents accidents or loss.
✅ Respect your health – Eat safe, balanced meals and rest when you can. Tired minds and bodies are more prone to mistakes.
✅ Look out for each other – University is about community. If you see a friend in distress, step in or call for help.

Remember: policies and campus rules set the framework, but it’s your daily choices and behavior that keep you SAFE.

Start your university journey not just with ambition, but also with safety in mind. Remember “Learn to live safely, before being saved.”
Welcome aboard and let’s make your orientation week both memorable and SAFVE!
