【8 Basic Student Needs (2)】- Every student needs inspiring models and modelling
Models offer ideas, can act as scaffolding, illuminate possibility, provide a pathway, and give students something to anchor their thinking to when everything else seems abstract and academic.
According to the research, most of the students can construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world effectively and efficiency, through experiencing things and reflecting on those experiences. When we encounter something new, we have to reconcile it with our previous ideas and experience, maybe changing what we believe, or maybe discarding the new information as irrelevant. In order to do this, we need a learning model to facilitate and guide us for asking questions, exploration and assessing what we know. With the complete and holistic learning model under constructivist learning theory, students are active creators of their own knowledge.
The experiential education tour with the application of Life Laboratory concept is more focus on stimulate and motivating the learners to makes discoveries and experiment with knowledge themselves. During the process of program development, It is well concretely interact the knowledge and application through the unique and completed learning and teaching model. With this, all the education tour program can stimulate the learners to reflect their experience in order to develop new ideas, new thinking, new skills and new attitudes. Thus, the Experiential Educational Tour is the Living Application Mode of Constructivism.

Personalising education involves a highly structured approach that places the needs, interest and learning styles of the students at the centre.

Every student is different but what does very single student need? How can we develop and design the curriculum, framework, instructional strategies, program and other educational mode that touch the mind of every students?

✴1. Every student needs self-knowledge
“Who am I and how can I relate the things I learn to the world?” It is the common question asked by every students. In the beginning stage of learning process, each student must has the knowledge or understanding of one’s own capabilities, character, feeling or motivation. Through self-knowledge. Students are more able to understand the outer physical universal as well as the inner metaphysical world within us.

Life Laboratory Education Concept and Model applied the Reggio Emillia philosophy where:
• Children must have some control over the direction of their learning
• Children must be able to learn through experience of collective sensory effect
• Children have a relationship with other children and with material items in the world that must be allowed to explore.

Implementation of Reggio Emillia approach in early childhood and primary education enable children to construct their own learning. They are driven by their interest to understanding and know more in the learning process. Furthermore, it enable children to form an understanding of themselves and their place in the world through their interaction with other.

“Is Early Childhood Education = Early Personal Development?”

In the early of September, a group of parents and educators discussed the “Real Meaning of Early Childhood Education” in MPE Forum.
Overview the on-line and off-line sharing, a lot of the participants viewed that Malaysia government and society need to deeply evaluate the position and implementation of Early Personal Development in Early Childhood Education. Some of the participants proposed that early childhood education should be personalized education, where the curriculum and co-curriculum are based on the children growth needs and their characters. They viewed that personalized education enable children to be self-motivated and to become excellent persons.
On the review of first theme discussion, the participants addressed the following questions:
1. What are the aims and values of early childhood education?
2. Have the Malaysia early childhood education move towards a holistic, child center system and aiming to cater for the individual’s diverse needs regardless of ability or social background
According to the education philosophy of Montessori, education should not be only concerned with a child’s academic performance, but should also cater for his social, emotional and physical development.
Since 20th century, child-center philosophy was strongly manifested in most of the developed country especially Finland. In order to help children to fit for a society marked by rapid and far-reaching economic and social change, early childhood education should:
1. Concern and care the diversify needs of children, including the skill development and character building;
2. Emphasis the holistic and rounded development of the individual;
3. Execute and manifest the collective impact of Total Sensory Learning
4. Advocate and highlight the integration of school, home and social education;
In summary, the aims, values and purposes of early childhood education were being influenced by demands for the humanization of education, and by philosophies encouraging the adaptation of education to the needs of the individual child, and the needs of the individual child in society. In 21st century, there are increasing number of developed country such as Finland, England, Sweden and other developing country to move toward child-center education and emphasis the humanist values in the education development.
