Get ready for Geoscience Interactive Week 2026 (GIW2026), 3-4 June 2026

Sharing a post on newly described exposures of 2 regional unconformities in Bintulu Sarawak: the Base Miocene and Base Cycle VI unconfomities. The work was done by UM MSc Student Chin Soon Mun

An Online PhD Seminar was held between postgraduates of the Department of Geology, Universiti Malaya and Empress Catherine II Saint Petersburg Mining University, Russia on the 20th May 2026. Eleven students presented their work, which covered topics on minerals including Tin, Gold and Potash, as well as research on Rare Earth Elements (REE), CO2 Sequestration, Geophysics, Ore Deposits Deformation, Mine Explosives and Mineral Resource Policy.

The Geological Society of Malaysia was honoured to have YB Dato’ Sri Arthur Joseph Kurup, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, along with Deputy Minister YB Tuan Syed Ibrahim Bin Syed Noh, and Secretary General YB Datuk Wira Anis Rizana Binti Mohd Zainudin visit our booth during the National Geologist's Day celebration on 4th May 2026 in Putrajaya.

The event was organized by The Board of Geologists Malaysia (BoG), in collaboration with the Minerals and Geoscience Department (JMG), Institute of Geology Malaysia (IGM), Geological Society of Malaysia and MyGEO.

Congratulations to the newly elected Geological Society of Malaysia Council Members for 2026/2027. For this session, 4 members of the Council are from the Department of Geology, Universiti Malaya:
