King’s College London and Cranfield announce proposed 2027 merger

King’s College London and Cranfield University have announced plans to merge in 2027, with university leaders saying the move would create a globally competitive institution spanning engineering, defence, environmental science and business education.

The two universities have signed an agreement as the first step toward bringing the institutions together from August 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.

Under the proposal, Cranfield University would become part of King’s College London, combining Cranfield’s specialist postgraduate expertise in engineering, applied research and industry partnerships with King’s broader interdisciplinary scale and international reach.

Dublin ISC: three game-changing updates

Dublin ISC has just made three of the biggest changes in the centre's history. Here’s everything you need to know for September 2026 intakes.

1. Under 17 pathway
Dublin ISC now welcomes students aged 16.5+ into the International Foundation Year on UCD Belfield campus. A structured, safe, premium pathway to a world top-120 university.

Students aged 16.5 at programme start who turn 17 by 31December 2027
Enhanced welfare framework: Garda-vetted homestay, named guardian, dedicated pastoral care
September 2026 and January 2027 intakes, both progressing to UCD September 2027
Places are limited. Homestay confirmation deadline: June 2026
2. Entry requirements
Dublin ISC has removed the highest qualification barrier. This means that applicants that may have been rejected may now be accepted following these changes. Other changes include:

Holistic assessment: Students can now be assessed on IGCSE or national diplomas without waiting for higher exam results AS Levels accepted independently at CDD
3. Automatic joint scholarship
The following scholarships are available for students studying an International Foundation Year at the International Study Centre and progressing to UCD.

EUR 2,000/year (Business, Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities IFY)
EUR 4,000/year (Engineering and Sciences IFY)
Applied automatically to all eligible offers. No separate application.
Extends into UCD degree years as progression scholarship (up to EUR 20,000 total)
Please note that students must first be awarded the International Foundation Year scholarship by Dublin ISC to be eligible for the progression scholarship awarded by UCD.

Who should you refer?
Students aged 16.5+ who were previously unable to apply on age grounds
Students with IGCSE, national diplomas, or AS Levels who do not yet have higher exam results
Students from any country classified as non-EU for fee purposes
Students interested in any UCD programme (including business, engineering, sciences, arts, health sciences, law, agriculture)

US to end “Duration of Status” for F, J, and I visas and limit the time international students can study in the US

Here are the highlights:
- The US government will soon establish a fixed-admission period for international students of four years or less

- This will replace “Duration of Status” (D/S) admissions with fixed end-dates on the Form I-94, require students and exchange visitors to file formal extension applications with USCIS, shorten grace periods, and prevent programme changes

- Many programmes take longer than four years to complete, especially at the graduate level

- Access to Optional Practical Training will be affected
Schools and higher education institutions will no longer have the power to adjudicate students’ requests for extensions; this will now be in the hands of US immigration officials

- Higher education stakeholders are already preparing for chaos and disruption in recruitment, admissions, enrolments, programming, and student advising

- On 5 May 2026, DHS submitted the final rule to eliminate D/S to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review

We can now confirm the revised deadlines for international applications for this cycle are as follows:

Intake September 2026

Application deadline: 14th August 2026*

Deposit deadline: 28th August 2026

CAS deadline: 4th September 2026

Enrolment deadline: 25th September 2026**

*For courses that require interviews in the Faculty of Health, the application deadline will be 31st May 2026.

**Except courses that have a fixed earlier start date.

Please note that the application deadline for countries identified by the UK government as ‘high risk’ will be held in all cases, any received a few days after the deadline for non high risk countries will be looked at on an individual basis in line with previous years.
