A win built on teamwork, discipline, and determination. 🦁⚽

Last Sunday, Arians Lion took on Croatian Football Academy, coming away with a 2–0 victory.

From the first whistle to the final one, the team showed great energy, stayed focused, and worked together throughout the game.

The goals were the reward, but the real value was in everything behind them — the communication, the movement, the teamwork, and the determination to keep pushing forward.

At Sri Aria School, we believe sport is another classroom. Every match gives our students the opportunity to build confidence, resilience, discipline, and the ability to work towards something together.

Big feelings need strategies, not just “calm down.”

When anger feels big, knowing what to do with it matters.

As part of our anger management learning, our students created their own sensory bottles.. carefully pouring, mixing, adding shimmering materials and securing the bottles themselves.

The idea is simple: when emotions feel overwhelming, a sensory activity can become one of the strategies a child explores to pause, slow down and give themselves a moment before responding.

Through the process, students were also practising:
✨ Following a sequence of steps
✨ Using their hands and senses intentionally
✨ Paying attention to changes inside the bottle
✨ Exploring different ways to regulate big feelings

Because anger management isn't about teaching children not to feel angry.

It’s about helping them understand their emotions and gradually build a toolbox of strategies for what they can do when those emotions feel BIG.

At Sri Aria School, we don't just teach children what to feel. We help them learn how to regulate what they feel.

Before we can manage an emotion, we need to recognise it.

What does anger look like?
What does sadness look like?
What about happiness, frustration, fear or excitement?

In this activity, our students created their own Emotion Cups, drawing facial expressions and symbols that helped them connect with different emotions.

It may look simple, but there’s an important learning happening underneath:
✨ Identifying different emotions
✨ Noticing facial expressions and emotional cues
✨ Connecting feelings with visual representations
✨ Building the language to talk about how we feel

Because emotional awareness starts with being able to say, “This is what I’m feeling.”

And when children can recognise their emotions, they are one step closer to learning what they can do with them.

At Sri Aria School, emotional learning is part of growing the whole human.

Sometimes, the teacher is another student.

She knew how to sew.

So instead of keeping that skill to herself, she decided to share it with her homeroom-mates.

And soon, other students who were interested joined in too.

What started as one student's interest became a small learning space led by a student herself.

This is one of the things we value about Self-Directed Learning.

SDL is not only about students choosing what they want to learn.

It is also about giving them opportunities to decide:
What can I explore?
What can I contribute?
What can I share with others?

In moments like this, a student isn't simply learning a new skill.

She is practising how to communicate, demonstrate, guide, listen, respond and support someone else's learning.

And her friends aren't simply being taught.

They are choosing to participate because something has sparked their interest.

At Sri Aria School, we believe children have more to contribute to their learning community when they are given the space and trust to do so.

Sometimes, learning looks like a Learning Facilitator (teacher) guiding a student.

And sometimes, it looks like a student showing another student how.

Both are learning.

A project can show what a student made. A presentation shows how they think.

After weeks of researching, designing, testing, creating and refining their SDL projects, our students had the opportunity to present their work.

But presenting isn’t simply about standing in front of an audience and talking.

It asks students to go one step further:
Why did you choose this idea?
What did you discover along the way?
What didn’t work?
What would you change?
What did you learn?

In that moment, students are not just showing a finished product.

They are making their thinking visible.

They are practising how to communicate an idea, explain their choices, respond to questions and reflect on their own learning.

And perhaps most importantly, they are learning to take ownership of something they have built from their own questions and ideas.

At Sri Aria School, SDL is not about giving students complete freedom without direction.

It is about giving them meaningful ownership of the learning process.. and the space to grow into confident, thoughtful learners.

Because the goal isn't just to make something.

It’s to know why you made it, understand what you learned, and be able to share it with others.
