Uzbekistan’s Islamic microfinance sector recorded a sharp expansion in the first quarter of 2026, with total financing provided by microfinance institutions reaching UZS11.2 billion (US$929.6 million), according to data from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan. The figure represents an almost eightfold increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Murabahah structures dominated activity, accounting for UZS7.7 billion (US$639.1 million) of total Islamic financing. This was followed by Mudarabah arrangements at UZS2.1 billion (US$174.3 million) and Ijarah transactions at UZS1.4 billion (US$116.2 million).

European Islamic funds delivered a strong start to 2026, with total AuM rising 6.5% q-o-q to US$73.25 billion in Q1 2026.

Shariah-compliant equities led the growth, expanding 7.29% to US$17.58 billion, while fixed-income portfolios climbed 7.58% to US$9.65 billion. Real estate posted the fastest growth, surging 86.18%, alongside a 60% increase in money market allocations.

Despite a modest decline in commodities amid fluctuating precious metal prices, sustained investor inflows kept Europe’s Islamic asset base firmly on an upward trajectory.
