Maqasid Institute Malaysia is branch of Maqasid Institute, which is a global think tank that is working to effect a paradigm shift in the understanding and practice of Islam via Maqasid al-Shariah or the higher objectives of Islam as based on divine revelation, the Quran, and the Sunnah to help guard the sanctity of all life forms, promote peace and security, and substantiate the value of divine g

uidance in human affairs. MI is nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonsectarian and committed to the advancement of faith, life, knowledge, prosperity and the welfare of future generations. The Institute's high priority research areas are: Islamic law, Development, Public policy and Women and minorities. Other areas of interest are: arts and entertainment, Education, Food and health, Social justice, Environment and Interfaith dialogue. Below are further descriptions for these areas of research.

1. Islamic law: To review laws and law projects to ensure their alignment with the maqasid of justice, mercy, welfare, dignity, life, knowledge and peace.
2. Development: To emphasize the importance of holistic development models that acknowledge the fundamental nature (fitrah) and needs of humanity and to better the human condition.
3. Politics and leadership: To critique and re-think public services from an Islamic lens. A maqasid approach can be developed to foster a more synergistic relationship between politics and policy and to reinstate human welfare.
4. Arts and entertainment: To provide criteria by which arts and entertainment can flourish to uplift human spirit while encouraging diverse artistic and entertainment expressions within a framework of Islamic values.
5. Holistic education: To address the shortcomings of both traditional Islamic approaches as well as on modern secular approaches in education, and propose new methods and policies.
6. Women and minorities: To ensure equality is a fundamental tenet of Islam though this is hardly evident in the reality of millions of women and minorities worldwide.
7. Food and health: To contribute solutions to food and health problems at the individual, communal, state, global levels, and especially policies for Halal industry.
8. Social justice: To contribute to the development of a theory or system of social justice that is based on Islamic values and is capable of meeting the aspirations of contemporary societies.
9. Environment: To preserve the environment and show the same Islamic values of mercy, wisdom, and peace to all of God’s creation whom we are told form communities similar to ours.
10. Interfaith studies: To promote interfaith dialogue both in substance and process, and paves the way for new understandings and cooperation.

Recorded lecture by Prof. Dr. Jasser Auda, the course offers a structured path through the core principles of Islamic thought and methodology.
