With fuel shortages rising and energy getting more expensiveโฆ this hits different.
At just 15 years old, Ann Makosinski from Canada built a flashlight that doesnโt need batteries, electricity, or charging. It runs on your body heat.
Using thermoelectric tiles, her โHollow Flashlightโ turns the warmth of your hand into energy. The inside heats up, the outside stays cool, and that temperature difference powers a small LED light.
She created it after learning that humans naturally produce heat like a 100-watt bulb, and after realizing many people around the world still live without reliable electricity.
It started as a school project then it became something much bigger.
In 2013, she entered the Google Science Fair and won the top prize for her age group, earning a $25,000-scholarship and global recognition.
It is a simple idea. But it asks a powerful question.
