tetapi sejauh mana kita belajar, berubah,
dan membuka ruang untuk semua bergerak bersama.

Malaysia yang kita syukuri.
Malaysia yang masih kita perbaiki.
Malaysia yang penuh harapan.

Selamat Hari Kebangsaan ke-69.

________

What we build together today will shape the Malaysia we leave for the next generation.

There is much to be grateful for; the progress we have made, the communities we have built, and the opportunities that have shaped the Malaysia we know today.

But progress does not mean the journey is complete. The experience of Malaysia can look different from one person to another, and there are still gaps worth confronting, questions worth asking, and voices worth hearing.

Looking ahead, perhaps progress is not only about how far we have come, but about how we continue to learn, adapt and make room for more people to move forward.

A Malaysia to be grateful for.
A Malaysia still worth improving.
A Malaysia worth hoping for.

Happy 69th Independence Day.

Online scams caused RM2.77 billion losses in 2025!

Cyber financial scams do not begin when money is taken. They follow a wider lifecycle, with some parts largely unseen. Scammers start with the groundwork and operational setup. They then establish contact with victims before luring them into the scam. Eventually, financial extraction happens and they cash out.

Our latest discussion paper develops a Scam Anatomy, to understand points of intervention and gaps at each stage.

Malaysia already has regulations and initiatives across the scam lifecycle. However, the response remains largely reactive. Much of the focus is placed on financial extraction and individual literacy. Our researcher, Jun-E Tan, together with visiting researchers Bor Neng Quan and Kuhaneetha Bai, calls for a broader approach. The response to cyber financial scams needs to involve shared responsibility across key actors. Law enforcement together with cybersecurity capacity need to be strengthened while this also should be supported by better use of technology, stronger scam data and more forward-looking legislation.

Dasar Tarif Trump Banyak Bercanggah, Tak Ambil Kira Kesan Automasi

“ Sebagai contoh, pentadbiran Trump berpendapat bahawa perdagangan yang tidak adil ini menyebabkan orang kehilangan perkejaan di AS. Tapi dia seperti tidak mengambil kira faktor automasi… yang turut memberi kesan di seluruh dunia termasuk Malaysia “ – Pn. Salbiah Idris, Penyelidik KRI

One curve. Many learners.
One destination. Different paths.
So why do we keep trying to make learning fit one shape?

Learning does not always follow a smooth curve. Individual learning can happen through sudden breakthroughs and plateaus, experiences that can be hidden when learning is reduced to averages.

Research Fellow, Dr. Yunus Yasin looks at the limits of rigid methodologies and explores how education can better recognise individual differences, interests and capabilities. It calls for diverse educational pathways and approaches that place the learner at the centre. Learning is neither a straight line nor a universal curve, but a path uniquely carved by each individual.

How well has Malaysia weathered the crisis so far?

The government has taken the Middle East crisis seriously from the outset. Since March, the National Economic Council has met weekly to assess its potential impact, not just on energy but also on food, medicine, and the cost of doing business. Preparations slowed as oil prices fell below $80 and the situation appeared to ease.

However, the situation remains difficult to predict. Oil prices have since risen above $90, while the duration and intensity of the crisis remain uncertain. As our Chairman, Dr Nungsari, notes, the safer assumption is that the crisis will persist for some time. For Malaysia, this means preparation cannot be a one-off response. It must continue as the situation evolves.

Kononnya Perjanjian Perdagangan Bebas, Tapi Kenapa Kertas Perjanjian Sampai Beratus Muka Surat?

“ Saya tak samakan perjanjian perdagangan bebas dengan perdagangan bebas… Kalau perdagangan bebas, patutnya barang boleh keluar masuk tanpa sekatan. “ Aidonna Jan Ayub, Timbalan Pengarah Penyelidikan KRI.
