Here at Poptani we want to put a farm in every house! We consult, design and build urban farms in houses, schools, and other spaces you may have :)

Hello folks!

Hope everyone is doing well, wherever you may be. We've had to hibernate for a while during the MCO, but now we're back!

Drop us a line and let's see how we could pop up a farm in your space :)

[throwback] This is what community gardening is all about - collaboration, community support, and just overall positivity and growth. What mother nature teaches us to come together. Each one of us have an important role to play in the ecosystem, where one is no more important than the other.

In the current climate, it means self distancing. It will help you, your family, loved ones, and the whole community. We all have a role to play here.

How's everyone doing? Hope we're all maintaining good consciousness and practicing self quarantine + social distancing. All the experts say it's the only way to properly protect yourself, loved ones, while at the same time lowering the peak of the virus.

Saying that, this is probably a good time to slow things down. Perhaps think back at how we're treating mother nature and all it's inhabitants. What's the result and consequences of our pursuit for riches?

Let's enjoy the simple pleasures in life.

This is an excerpt from a New York Times article - The Ecology of Disease

"THERE’S a term biologists and economists use these days — ecosystem services — which refers to the many ways nature supports the human endeavor. Forests filter the water we drink, for example, and birds and bees pollinate crops, both of which have substantial economic as well as biological value.

If we fail to understand and take care of the natural world, it can cause a breakdown of these systems and come back to haunt us in ways we know little about. A critical example is a developing model of infectious disease that shows that most epidemics — AIDS, Ebola, West Nile, SARS, Lyme disease and hundreds more that have occurred over the last several decades — don’t just happen. They are a result of things people do to nature."

Let's continue challenging ideas. How's this for a 'vertical' garden? Garden Tower anyone? 😁

Check out Sky Greens, a Singapore-based company, that has developed a revoluntionary method in farming. This vertical farming structure is able to rotate the shelves throughout the day.

The plants at the bottom receive water, while the ones at the top get sunlight and the process continues. This approach minimizes the use of water, land, and energy over the conventional farming techniques.

Sky Greens claims it is able to produce 10 times more compared to traditional farming. This is really cool.

We're exploring design ideas and will be sharing how we feel farms can look like in various spaces. This is a design for developers, apartments, shopping malls, office buildings, schools and the likes.

The best part is all the pieces are modular. You can add and customise, make it as big or small as you like.

Where would you set something like this up?

This is just for fun. Here's a trivial knowledge we recently came across.

Scientists have discovered a new genus of the marsupial lion, an ancient ancestor of marsupials today. Very ancient like 30million years ago. Marsupials today are usually animals with pouches like a kangaroo, koalas and wallabies. All pretty harmless and cute. Right? But this marsupial lion, though the size of today's cat, used to be quite a predator.

"In Australia, the marsupial lions were the supremely specialised carnivores throughout at least the last 30 million years of Australian history."

(The illustration is an artist impression. It is quite cute)

At our monthly session with Rumah Ilham TTDI and Petronita. It's honestly been greatly rewarding to educate young and impressionable children the great wisdom of nature.

Shout out to our partner Urban Hijau for providing us the learning site.

This is a simple diagram of the micro ecosystem of a tree. Incredible!

How would a farm in your house look like? We're exploring design ideas and will be sharing how we feel farms can look like in various spaces.

This is a vertical farm using carts and wooden boxes inside simple metal rack. It's easily customisable and modular.

This design takes up very little floor space and ideal for any kind of home whether you have a big garden or a balcony. It also provide the option to start small and grow bigger as you go along.

Let us know what you think, and how you would like a farm in your space to look like :)
