What does leadership mean to you?

At the Leadership on the Edge Forum, we brought together leaders from across industries to explore what it takes to lead through uncertainty, complexity and change.

But leadership is not defined by a title alone.

It is reflected in how we make decisions, inspire others, navigate challenges and create meaningful impact.

We asked some of our distinguished leaders one simple question: “What does leadership mean to you?”

Their answers offer different perspectives — but one common thread: leadership is a responsibility to move people and organisations forward.

Watch the video to hear what leadership means to them.

Malaysia's financial sector just moved to a shared regional definition of "green."

At the 17th Joint Committee on Climate Change (JC3) meeting, Bank Negara Malaysia and the Securities Commission agreed to build the Malaysia Taxonomy on the foundation of the ASEAN Taxonomy for Sustainable Finance — rather than maintaining a fully separate classification system.

The shift matters because taxonomies are infrastructure, not paperwork. They determine which assets qualify for green financing, how institutions report exposure, and how easily capital moves across borders. A national taxonomy that doesn't align with regional standards creates friction for every cross-border transaction and every comparison an investor tries to make.

For reporting and risk teams, the practical implications are immediate:

→ A pilot phase begins before full adoption
→ Full implementation is expected by 2028
→ Existing classification frameworks will need to be reconciled against the ASEAN baseline
→ Early alignment reduces the volume of restatement work later

Institutions that begin this reconciliation now — rather than waiting for the 2028 deadline — will spend less time retrofitting and more time using the taxonomy as intended: to direct capital with confidence.

At Asian Banking School, we translate regulatory shifts like this into practical, role-specific learning for the professionals who have to operationalise them. If your team is mapping out what this timeline means internally, that's a conversation worth having early.

Writing a 𝘬𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘯 or 𝘭𝘢𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘯 is one of the most common and under-trained tasks in Malaysian banking.

Most banking professionals write proposal papers and reports regularly. Few areever formally taught how. The result is documents that are technically adequate but structurally weak — unclear arguments, inconsistent register, formatting that does not follow the correct standard, and language errors that quietly undermine credibility with senior stakeholders and regulators.

ABS's Kursus Penulisan Profesional Dokumen Rasmi (Kertas Cadangan dan Laporan) closes that gap — delivered by a certified trainer from Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), the national authority on Bahasa Melayu. The content is built directly on DBP's language standards, which means participants will learn how to write correctly, according to the benchmark the whole country uses.

This is a two-day, intermediate-level programme, HRDC claimable, and directly relevant to anyone in banking, insurance, or takaful who prepares proposals or reports for internal or regulatory audiences.

It maps to the Professional Communication and Written Documentation competency clusters under Malaysia's Future Skills Framework (FSF) — foundational across virtually every banking job role.

Here is what you will leave with:
→ A clear, correct framework for structuring kertas cadangan and laporan
→ Confidence in using the right grammar, register, and format for formal documents
→ Stronger argumentation and content organisation that persuades senior readers

📅 Registration closes two weeks before the programme date.

🎓 Alliance Bank ETP Cohort 2 Graduation: Setting a New Benchmark

Six months of growth, learning and transformation culminated last Friday as Cohort 2 of the Emerging Talent Programme (ETP) celebrated their graduation.

One of the highlights was the participants’ project pitches around “How Might We Harness AI Technologies in Redesigning Banking Processes”, showcasing creativity, innovative thinking and a strong willingness to explore how AI can reshape the future of banking.

The graduation ceremony was further enriched by the presence of Mr. Kellee Kam, Group CEO of Alliance Bank, whose humility and leadership provided an inspiring example for the emerging leaders as they embark on the next chapter of their careers.

At Asian Banking School, we are proud to have supported the development journey of Cohort 2 alongside our ETP trainers — Jackie Lee, Patricia Ee, Dr. Wendy Lee, CSP, DBA, CBIP, and Robert Jeyakumar. Their commitment, courage and creativity throughout the programme are a testament to the potential of the next generation of banking talent.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad, Ms. Mui Sim T., and the L&D team — Min Dee Ng, Cheong Lee Ling and Chui Lin Chang — for their continued trust, collaboration and dedication in making this programme a success.

✨ Congratulations to ETP Cohort 2!
You have set a new benchmark for future cohorts, and we look forward to welcoming Cohort 3 next month.
May you continue to lead with purpose, innovate with courage and inspire those around you.

The journey of growth never ends.
