Welcoming back one of our own.
It was a pleasure to host Andrew Foley , Assistant Professor of Management & Organizations at NYU Stern School of Business , for the latest session of ASB’s Research Seminar Series, where he shared insights from his research on “Balancing the Ties that Intertwine: Balancing Multiplex Market Exchanges in Village Economies.”
Drawing on longitudinal data from Thai village economies, Andrew’s research explored how social and economic relationships intersect — and how trust, reciprocity, and exchange shape human interactions and community dynamics over time. The session sparked thoughtful discussions on the complexity of social networks, exchange relationships, and economic behavior in everyday life.
What made the session especially meaningful for the ASB community was seeing Andrew return not only as a globally recognized academic from NYU Stern, but also as one of our very own alumni from ASB’s inaugural Class of 2018.
From ASB student, to earning his PhD at Cornell University , to now serving in a tenure-track role at NYU Stern, Andrew’s journey reflects the spirit of lifelong learning, intellectual curiosity, and global impact that continues to define the ASB community.
A heartfelt thank you as well to Professor Melati Nungsari .reads (Deputy Dean of Research and Academics, ASB) and everyone who joined the seminar and contributed to the engaging discussions throughout the session.
Moments like these remind us that the ASB network is more than a community — it is a lifelong ecosystem of scholars, leaders, and changemakers shaping conversations across the world.

What does really look like in today’s fractured world — beyond the headlines and the greenwashing?
The Asia School of Business (ASB) Alumni Office, together with the Alumni Society of Malaysia, hosted an engaging fireside chat on “Climate Transition in a Fractured World: What the Data Tells Us.”
We were honored to welcome Professor Carmen Nuzzo, Professor in Practice and Executive Director at the TPI Global Climate Transition Centre, LSE, who shared powerful insights on how companies, banks, and governments are truly progressing toward a low-carbon economy — and where critical gaps still remain.
Moderated by Dr. Pieter Stek, Senior Lecturer and Faculty Director of the ASB Center for Technology, Strategy and Sustainability (), the conversation explored the realities, tensions, and opportunities shaping climate transition efforts across industries and nations in an increasingly complex global landscape.
This event also marked a meaningful milestone — the first collaboration between the ASB Alumni Office and the LSE Alumni Society of Malaysia — bringing together two globally connected communities united by lifelong learning, thoughtful dialogue, and impactful cross-sector engagement.
A special thank you to Dato’ Azman Shah Mohd Yusof (President of the LSE Alumni Society of Malaysia) for the opening address, and Professor Melati Nungsari (Deputy Dean of Research and Academics, ASB) for the closing remarks.
At ASB, we believe meaningful progress begins with courageous conversations grounded in data, context, and collaboration. The discussion was a strong reminder that the future of climate transition will require not only ambition — but also transparency, accountability, and collective action.

Eid al-Adha is a time to reflect on what brings us closer: faith, gratitude, compassion, and community.
At the Asia School of Business, we are reminded that meaningful connections are built not only in classrooms and conversations, but also in the values we carry beyond them.
From all of us at ASB, Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladha to you and your loved ones.

Shaping the future of Malaysia’s public sector leadership through AI.
The Asia School of Business (ASB), in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital, through MyDIGITAL Corporation , and the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) Malaysia , is proud to deliver the AI Leadership for Public Sector Stewardship programme under the Executive Digital Leadership Initiatives — bringing together Ketua Setiausaha (Secretary Generals of Malaysian government ministries) and senior public sector leaders to build an AI-ready, people-first government.
Officiated by YBhg. Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Bin Abu Bakar, Ketua Setiausaha Negara, and joined by distinguished leaders including YBhg. Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Bin Haji Abdul Aziz, Ketua Pengarah Perkhidmatan Awam, and YBhg. Datuk Fabian Bigar, Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Digital, the programme reflects a shared national commitment toward responsible, strategic, and human-centric AI transformation.
Over two intensive days, participants engaged in highly practical and action-driven modules covering AI leadership, AI mastery, prompt engineering, AI ethics and governance, mindset transformation, and the development of ministry-level AI-People-First Roadmaps, turning strategy into actionable implementation.
The programme concluded with a closing address by Professor Joseph Cherian, CEO, President, Dean, and Distinguished Professor of ASB, reinforcing the School’s commitment toward nation building and expanding access to transformative, world-class learning experiences — including future initiatives aimed at empowering younger generations across suburban and rural communities, including East Malaysia.
More than conversations, this programme is about equipping leaders to drive meaningful change, strengthen public service delivery, accelerate digital readiness, and help shape a stronger Malaysia for the future.
The future. Faster.
