What is MayPole?
History has it that in the ancient village in medieval times people marked the arrival of spring by dressing in white, weaving flower headdresses, and dancing with bright ribbons around a maypole.

Why do we celebrate it at Hilltop?
We find ourselves celebrating this festival to bring the community together and enrich the soul of each individual. We sang as we danced around the maypole in one direction wrapping the ribbons beautifully, turning and dancing the other way.

How the children weaved in and out of the circle, occasionally getting tangled but never once allowing that moment to define the celebration.

This is the skill-set for the future: take ownership of the part you can control, figure out what to improve, negotiate with teammates involved, do it, repeat. Don’t wait for the omniscient and omnipotent leadership, don’t waste time on blaming the system or imposter syndrome. Make it your own and celebrate it.

At the heart of the Waldorf Easter celebration is the Easter egg hunt, a beloved tradition that dates back centuries. The Easter egg hunt is often seen as a metaphor for the search for inner truth and beauty, as well as a celebration of the renewal of life and the arrival of spring.

Through the practice of traditions like the Easter egg hunt, we can foster a sense of wonder, curiosity, and joy that will stay with us throughout our lives. Wishing all a very Happy Easter.

The gift of celebrating Chinese New Year in a multiculturalism society is the festive in itself is a celebration for all. We at Hilltop ushered in the Year of the galloping fire horse with such joy and intensity. Our children gathered together with parents and friends. Not one to shy away from the hustle and bustle of the festival, our children also dressed themselves and participated in the lion troop dance. What a sight! What a celebration! What a joy!

Play based education is healthy education. And the children performs better in the long term. Don’t believe? Read this!

💡Play based learning is fun and all, but there's no way it improves standardized test scores, right? Think again! ✨

Education Week published results from a 3-year pilot study out of Connecticut. After switching one public school Kindergarten back to play based learning, elementary school students "outperformed state averages in English/language arts by 10.5 percentage points—74.4% compared with 63.9%. The following year, the school’s SPI score in ELA rose to 77.5%, the highest in both the district and the state."

The beginning of the change of year in the Chinese calendar is marked by the celebration of “lap Chun”. It’s often celebrated on 4 Feb and marks the beginning of Spring and signifies growth. It is believed that on this day if you place an egg on the floor, the egg will stand on its own. This implies that the energy in the space is good.

Happy 2026 parents and friends. Welcoming the children to school after a long break is something we teachers look forward to at the begining of the new year. The children never fail to surprise us with new skills, new behaviour and new anticipation. For those who are returning to class, the become physically taller, they also feel more confident and their play is more creative.

Watching, observing, touching and then she wanted to be like the others… carrying it. Unfortunately the pumpkin was bigger than her! As for the boys, they tried and happily succeeded in lifting the colossal ginormous pumpkin. And what a feeling it was for the children.

Our first field trip out of Kuala Lumpur… and where did we go?
Four year ago we made our documentary at Paddy’s Cottage. Two years later we went back to harvest watermelon. And now we’re back @ Paddy’s Cottage. It is now bigger than ever. We enjoyed horse carriage ride. Truck car ride and more importantly the children met many different types of farm animals. They even made the “feed” for the various types of animals. Thank you for hosting us to a wonderful day at your farm. The slight drizzle did little to dampen our spirit as we were treated to a scrumptious lunch and not forgetting drinking sugar cane juices made by the farmer, the parents and the children themselves. What a memorable day.
