Christ Church, Malacca was the former Gereformeerde Kerk (Dutch Reformed Church) of Malacca, where the pious Dutch people of the town had long ago congregated. To the Dutch people of Malacca the church was simply known as the Benedenkerk, meaning the “Church down the hill”.

During the British era, the Church building underwent some minor changes. Its original Dutch windows were reduced in size and ornamented. The porch and vestry were built in the mid-19th century. The location of the Church bell was never on the building. Later the bell was fixed to its facade and eventually relocated to the top of the front of the building.
