Malaysia Waldorf Learning Support is excited to announce that the long-awaited Waldorf Learning Support, 3-year Intensive (from Year 2024 to Year 2026) is open for registration. This 3-year course has been customised for Asian participants.
Year 1 (2024) session will be held on Mar, 23-24 & 28-29.
This is a one-time collaboration only, Many children today need some level of learning support, so help us bring this work into the future.

Introduction of hand grasp development
In current modern society, parents are very concern about their children’s literacy. Thus, the children are exposed to early brain development and even digital gadget. Instead of holding pencil, the children are holding touch screen. One could be using his thumb more and develops repetitive strain injury. Improper development of hand grasp since early childhood could be getting more prominent and it is one of the reasons that causes bad handwriting or unable to write long paragraph due to poor fine motor skill.
If screen time is replaced with specific activities to develop children’s gross motor skill, this could help them to build their postural strength. Both indoor and outdoor activities that strengthen their shoulder, upper arm, wrist, fingers and practice of independent fingers are in fact crucial to stabilize writing ability.
Some elder children may still have poor dexterity which could be a long-term effect of retained palmar reflex. The latter could cause a child to make movement with mouth when trying to write or draw. Some children may have palm tactile hypersensitivity. Non-integrated palmar reflexed has relationship with speech difficulty too.
Palmar reflex is fully present at birth, and it is inhibited at 2-3 months after birth. From third month onwards a child will be able to grasp an item with immature fi**ed grasp.
At around the end of one year old , a child starts to develop pincer grasp which is a new stage of fine motor milestone.
At 12- 15 months a child moves to palmar supinate grasp. Around 2 years old a child’s fine motor skill is further improved to digital pronate grasp.
At age 3-5, a child could hold a pencil with static tripod or quadruped grasp which the writing movement comes from the wrist and forearm movements.
After 6 years old a child could hold a pencil appropriately with dynamic tripod grasp which the pencil movement comes from fingers movement.
Any observation showing immature hand grasp according to their age group may require further intervention especially during schooling age.

3 YEAR INTENSIVE (PART TIME)
This certificate course comes in 9 sessions of training, over three-year to prepare you to be a Learning Support Teacher either in a Steiner Waldorf School or private practice. The WLS certificate of completion for this course meets the job requirements for a Learning Support Teacher at most Steiner Waldorf Schools worldwide.
MWLS, partnering with WLS International, offers a rigorous curriculum, mentoring & professional development, to prepare you to step into the field with confidence upon graduation.
At the end of the 3 years, you will receive a WLS certificate of completion from WLS International.
