It is estimated that 77% of academics now use AI in their work. However, many do not realize that they can get paid twice for the same work.
Here's what that gap means in plain terms. You're already doing the work of building AI into your teaching. You're already learning the tools. Your institution isn't paying you extra for that skill, and it's not going to.
The lecturers I work with took the same skill they were already building for free and pointed it somewhere that pays them directly. Not a new career. Not leaving the classroom. The same expertise, packaged as something they can sell.
The gap between "I use AI to survive class" and "I use AI to build income" is usually a few weeks of the right structure, not a new skill set.
If you're already using AI in some parts of your work, then you're surely fluent enough to build with it. The only missing piece is knowing what to build first.
