NEW VIVA VOCE PUBLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Effective Semester 261

Dear Students and Lecturers,

Please be informed that the revised Publication Requirements for PhD, DBA, and Doctor of Management (DMgt) Viva Voce take effect starting Semester 261.

Key requirements include:
PhD: Candidates must fulfil Option A or Option B.
DBA: Candidates must have at least one article published in a refereed journal.
DMgt: Candidates must fulfil Option A, B, or C.

General Criteria: Strict adherence is required regarding publication status, candidacy period, thesis/dissertation topic alignment, supervisor co-authorship, first authorship, additional co-authors, UUM first affiliation, verification, and submission documentation.

⚠️ ACTION REQUIRED
All candidates and supervisors are advised to carefully review the attached posters to ensure full compliance with the applicable publication requirements prior to submitting the Online Intent to Submit for Viva Voce Form (Online ITS Form).

A hijacked journal is a fake website or deceptive publisher that impersonates a legitimate journal by using its name, ISSN, or reputation to attract authors and collect publication fees.

🔎 Watch out for these warning signs:
• A website URL that looks almost identical to the official journal website
• Inconsistent volume, issue, page, or journal information
• Unusually fast article acceptance without proper peer review
• Aggressive or suspicious email invitations
• Immediate payment requests or questionable payment channels
• Articles that cannot be verified in recognised academic databases

🛡️ Before submitting your manuscript:
✅ Verify the journal’s official website and publisher
✅ Check the ISSN, URL, and publication details
✅ Verify the journal and article records in databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, or DOAJ
✅ Seek confirmation from your library or relevant academic unit if you are unsure

⚠️ Remember: Being indexed does not automatically mean that every article using the journal’s name is genuinely indexed.
