IIUM Department of Fiqh & Usul al-Fiqh

International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and Aliah University Kolkata, India have signed a Letter of Intent to establish strategic academic and research collaboration in areas including community development, professional training, joint research, conferences, seminars, and academic exchange.

The document was signed by Prof. Dr. Hafiz Bin Zakariya, Dean of AHAS KIRKHS, IIUM, and Prof. Dr. Rafikul Islam, Vice Chancellor of Aliah University Kolkata, marking a significant step towards the forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

On the IIUM side, the collaboration will be coordinated by the Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh.

The Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh welcomed Prof. Aasim I. Padela from the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), USA, a leading scholar in Islamic bioethics, for a scholarly exchange.

Prof. Padela is Professor of Emergency Medicine at MCW and Director of the Initiative on Islam and Medicine.

Prof. Dr. Mahmudul Hasan, Department of English Language and Literature, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), was also present at the session.

On 12 June 2026, the Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh, in collaboration with the Sayed Ismail Shihabudeen Council for Visionary Leadership (SISCO), AHAS KIRKHS, IIUM, successfully organized an academic programme entitled NADWAT AL-JUMU‘AH – Session 602: A Contemporary Approach to Atheist Doubts and Their Refutation at the SISCO Meeting Room, Level 3, IRK Building, IIUM Gombak.

The session was delivered by Dr. Haytham Talʻat, a distinguished researcher and preacher, who examined contemporary atheist arguments and presented scholarly refutations from an Islamic perspective.

RKFQ-POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS GATHERING 2026

The Department of Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh, through its Postgraduate Student Committee, successfully organized the Postgraduate Students Gathering on Friday, 5 June 2026, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The programme commenced with opening remarks by HoD, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sayyed Muhsin.

The gathering then featured a special talk by Dr. M.J.M. Arafath Careem entitled “Methods of Effectiveness in Academic Research Writing: Practical Methods and Techniques”, provided valuable insights into effective academic writing.

The briefing begin with Prof. Bouhedda Ghalia, Coordinator and Chairperson of the Postgraduate Committee, introducing the faculty members.

Then followed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Fuad Sawari conducted an academic briefing on Study Plans and Thesis/Dissertation Procedures, offering important guidance to students regarding their academic progress and research requirements.

The final session was delivered by Dr. Zulqernain Haider, who shared information on journals and publications. The programme concluded with a group photography session.
