We at the EcoCampus Management Centre are thrilled to share some exciting news — in just two months, Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s main campus will be powered by clean, renewable solar energy, meeting up to 70 percent of our total electricity consumption.

All around the campus, you can witness one of the most remarkable sustainability transformations since the launch of the EcoCampus Initiative in 2013. Many of our car parks and building rooftops are now adorned with solar panels, symbolizing UMS’s strong commitment to a greener, more sustainable future.

🌞 Solar-Powered Innovation Transforms Rural Malaysia! 🇲🇾

Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) have joined forces to revolutionize rural agriculture and fisheries through the Integrated Solar Dryer (INSOLER) — a sustainable innovation designed to boost productivity, reduce waste, and support community livelihoods.

The project, developed by Prof. Dr. Jidon Januan (UMS) and Prof. Ts. Dr. Arham Abdullah (UMK), is already empowering farmers and fishers in Sabah and Kelantan, enhancing local income while promoting green technology and food security.

💬 UMS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Kasim Hj. Mansor, said:
“INSOLER embodies the spirit of innovation that connects science to society. Through university collaboration, UMS continues to champion technologies that create real impact — transforming lives, driving sustainability, and strengthening Malaysia’s innovation ecosystem.”

Awarded the Gold Medal and Special Award (New York Green Technology) at IEVA Germany 2023, INSOLER has placed UMS among global leaders in sustainable innovation. 🌍⚙️

Salam EcoCampus! The EcoCampus Management Centre today ran a course on infographics to support their work in UI Greenmetric World University Ranking.

Infographics are highly important in the context of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings because they serve as a powerful communication and management tool for sustainability performance as they simplifies complex sustainability data, highlights achievements and progress, supports internal awareness, and enhances strategic planning and benchmarking.

By visualising performance across the six UI GreenMetric criteria, EcoCampus Management Centre is able to identify, track, benchmark UMS's sustainability performance.

Pusat Pengurusan EcoCampus akan mengadakan Kursus Dalaman Infografik Untuk UI GreenMetrics: From Data To Impact pada 9 Oktober 2025 (Khamis) bertempat di Bilik Mesyuarat Pusat Pengurusan EcoCampus.

Kursus ini bertujuan memberikan latihan kemahiran tambahan kepada staf Pusat Pengurusan EcoCampus agar mampu menyampaikan informasi interaktif berkaitan UI GreenMetrics World University Rankings bagi tujuan penilaian penarafan tahunan seterusnya sebagai sumber maklumat terkini kepada warga UMS.

Salam EcoCampus! Today, Universiti Malaysia Sabah proudly launched the Bring Your Own Utensils (BYOU) initiative as part of our ongoing sustainability efforts and our journey as an EcoCampus.

The BYOU program encourages our community to reduce single-use plastics and disposables by bringing their own utensils when dining on campus. It’s a simple yet impactful step towards cultivating responsible habits, lowering waste generation, and promoting a culture of sustainability in everyday life.
Small actions, when practiced collectively, lead to big changes.

EcoCampus is consistently featured UMS a model for sustainable living and inspire others to follow suit.

Pusat Pengurusan EcoCampus UMS akan melancarkan Kempen Bring Your Own Utensils (BYOU) pada 30 September 2025 bertempat di Dewan Canselor UMS.

Kempen ini adalah bersempena dengan Program Minggu Suai Mesra Sesi 2025 / 2026 Kali Ke-31 UMS bagi memberikan kesedaran amalan kelestarian universiti khususnya kepada semua pelajar baharu yang mendaftar pada masa tersebut.

Universiti Malaysia Sabah has proudly won the Malaysia Sustainable Leadership Award 2025 under the category Sustainability Team of the Year: Green Technology Innovation at The Solar Week Malaysia 2025.

This achievement is led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Kamal bin Mohd Shah and the Microgrid Laboratory Research Group, with dedicated members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Irma Wani bt Othman, Dr. Nahiyan Al-Azad, and Dato' Ir. Ts. Dr. Zahari bin Dollah.
