From the rice fields of Sabah to the longhouses of Sarawak, this season is a meaningful celebration of gratitude, culture, community, and harvest.
As we celebrate Kaamatan and Hari Gawai, may we continue to appreciate the traditions, resilience, and unity that connect the people of Borneo.
At Ability Expeditions, we are always grateful for the opportunity to introduce students to the rich cultural heritage, stories, and communities that make this island so special.
Wishing everyone a joyful Kaamatan and Selamat Hari Gawai!

No matter where our school expeditions take us โ deep in the rainforest, by the riverside, or back at camp after a long day of adventure โ one thing always brings students togetherโฆ football.
Some of the best moments happen during downtime, where a simple game on the field turns into laughter, teamwork, new friendships, and unforgettable memories across cultures and nationalities.
At Ability Expeditions, learning goes beyond the classroom โ and sometimes beyond the programme itself. ๐๐

This yearโs theme, โActing locally for global impactโ, reminds us that even small actions within our own communities and environments can contribute towards protecting biodiversity on a much larger scale.
Here in Sabah, we are surrounded by extraordinary biodiversity โ from ancient rainforests and unique wildlife to rivers, mountains, and marine ecosystems that continue to inspire learning, exploration, and appreciation for the natural world.
Protecting biodiversity is not only about conservation. It is also about education, awareness, and helping future generations understand the importance of living in harmony with nature.
Sometimes, meaningful change begins with simply experiencing and appreciating the environment around us. ๐ฟ

Did you know Malaysia is home to some beautiful tea-growing regions?
From the cool highlands of Cameron Highlands in Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah Tea in the foothills of Mount Kinabalu, tea production here is deeply connected to nature, climate, and landscape.
Sabah Tea is especially unique as it is one of the few organic tea plantations in the region, surrounded by rainforest and views of Borneoโs iconic mountain ranges. Meanwhile, Cameron Highlands remains Malaysiaโs most well-known tea destination, with rolling green terraces that have become part of the countryโs landscape identity.
On International Tea Day, we celebrate not just the drink itself, but the people, environments, and traditions behind every cup of tea. ๐โ

A timely reminder that some of the most important work in nature happens quietly.
Beesโespecially our local stingless beesโplay a vital role in pollinating plants, supporting biodiversity, and sustaining ecosystems that we depend on.
In places like Kiulu, they are also part of growing community livelihoods, from honey production to small-scale cottage industries.
Beyond its sweetness, honey carries the essence of the environment it comes fromโsupporting natural wellness and reflecting the health of the ecosystems around it.
Through our partnership with Riverbug who manages Linsuk Farm, visitors have the opportunity to experience this firsthandโlearning how stingless bee farming supports both conservation and local communities.
Nature is deeply interconnected.
Protecting pollinators means protecting the forests, the food we grow, and the communities around us.
Because sometimes, the smallest species carry the greatest responsibility.

Through every expedition, individuals arrive as strangers, but leave with a shared sense of trust, support, and belonging.
Whether itโs navigating unfamiliar trails, overcoming challenges together, or simply sharing moments in nature, these experiences often create bonds that last far beyond the journey itself.
Because sometimes, what begins as a group becomes something much stronger.

๐ง๏ธ Sabahโs weather this time of year reminds us just how alive the rainforest truly is.
As Malaysia transitions into the Southwest Monsoon season, short afternoon showers and cooling rains have become part of our daily rhythm โ especially here in Sabah where the forests thrive on this tropical cycle.
But for outdoor learning, a little rain often brings the best moments:
๐ fresher jungle trails
๐ธ more active wildlife
๐ฑ thriving biodiversity
๐ and unforgettable expedition experiences
In the tropics, nature doesnโt stop when it rains โ it transforms. And sometimes, those rainy moments become the most meaningful memories for students learning beyond the classroom walls.

This Motherโs Day, we celebrate not only the mothers who nurture, guide, and inspire us every day โ but also the natural world that quietly does the same.
From the oceans and rainforests to the mountains and rivers, Mother Earth continues to provide beauty, life, learning, and connection for all of us.
May we continue to appreciate, protect, and care for both the people and the planet that shape our lives.
Happy Motherโs Day from all of us at Ability Expeditions. ๐ฟ

This ๐ช๐ผ๐ฟ๐น๐ฑ ๐ ๐ถ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฑ ๐๐ฎ๐- ๐ญ๐ฌ ๐ ๐ฎ๐, we are reminded that the skies above us are part of a much larger journey.
Each year, migratory birds travel thousands of kilometers across continents, passing through places like Sabahโusing its wetlands, coastlines, and forests as vital stopover points.
From the graceful Barn Swallow to the elusive Wood Sandpiper, these birds rely on safe habitats to rest, feed, and continue their journey along the East AsianโAustralasian Flyway.
By May, many are already beginning their return journeyโreminding us that migration is not always visible, but always essential.
Nature is a classroom without walls. And sometimes, the greatest lessons come not from what we seeโbut from understanding the journeys we donโt.
๐ Because protecting nature means protecting pathways we may never fully witness.
