My father was born on the 4th of July.
Today would’ve been his birthday.
As I get older, these days feel different. Birthdays. Anniversaries. They bring more reflection than before: on time, on mortality, on what we leave behind.
Maybe it’s age. Maybe it’s the quiet awareness that mortality comes closer each year. One day, I’ll lose my mother too. And these thoughts about impermanence and legacy have been sitting heavier with me.
I’ve been noticing the contrasts of aging more. Stiff joints. Slower mornings. A body that no longer moves like it did in my twenties. But with those changes come things I value even more: experience, perspective, autonomy.
I don’t move as fast anymore. But I stand more firmly in who I am.
I’ve come to believe that waking up each day and choosing how to live is a quiet act of courage. Not just going through the motions, but making conscious choices. What to think. What to feel. How to respond. Choosing to be the author of our lives, not just swept along by circumstance.
That kind of courage isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s just showing up. And staying consistent in who we are.
At a recent training I was assisting, something unexpected happened. Through an exercise we did together, I was told by the trainer that the company draws strength from my presence. That my consistency, my way of being, made them feel more anchored in themselves.
It caught me off guard. I often wonder whether I do enough for the people who matter to me. But maybe presence itself is the gift. Maybe living with intention is more powerful than we realize.
I still feel my father’s presence. In certain phrases I say. In the way I listen. In stories from his old students or friends who still speak of him with warmth. He left, but he didn’t vanish.
So here’s the question I’ve been sitting with:
What will remain of you, after you’re no longer physically here?
𝗣.𝗦. That’s Hunter, the resident cat at KK Wetlands. He helped co-facilitate the training.

I wished a friend Happy Father’s Day this morning, and he replied, “In your own way, you’re a father to many.” I paused. I’d never quite thought about it that way.
Over the years, I’ve mentored and guided a lot of people. Not as a replacement for their fathers, but simply by being present, listening, and sharing what I’ve learned. It’s not something I set out to do, but perhaps it’s something I picked up without realising.
My own father was a deeply committed man. He taught psychiatry to nurses and was one of the early voices in Sabah who spoke publicly about mental health. I remember how carefully he prepared his lectures, how he marked every paper by hand, how proud he was to see his students succeed. At the time, I didn’t think much of it. Now, as someone who also teaches, I understand it far better.
He wasn’t expressive. Like many men of his generation, he showed care through consistency and responsibility, not affection. We only started growing closer during his later years, when Alzheimer’s had already begun to take hold. But something shifted. We started hugging him. We told him we loved him. And slowly, almost awkwardly at first, he began to receive it.
It may not seem like much. But I’ve come to believe that for many men, especially those raised to be strong and self-reliant, learning to receive love is one of the most important shifts we can make.
So today, I’m thinking of him, and the different roles we all play. As fathers. As sons. As mentors. As men still figuring out what care and connection really look like. Wherever you are in that journey, I hope this day gives you a moment to reflect, reconnect, or perhaps heal something quietly.
P.S. This photo of my father was taken in his later years. By then, he couldn’t remember our names at times. But he still smiled every time he saw a cat. Some things stay, even when memory doesn’t.

𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗶 𝗥𝗮𝘆𝗮 𝗛𝗮𝗷𝗶 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝘆 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗺 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀.
Years ago, when I was a student in the UK, an Egyptian friend shared with me the meaning behind this day. It wasn’t just about the ritual. It was about faith. About trust. About surrendering to something bigger than ourselves.
Hari Raya Haji honours the story of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice what he loved most out of obedience to God. But in that final moment, a ram was given instead—a powerful reminder that sometimes, the path of faith doesn't require us to lose everything, but to be willing to.
To me, this day carries a deeper invitation:
· To reflect on what we’re holding onto.
· To ask ourselves: are we guided by fear, or by principle?
· And to remember that real faith often means letting go of certainty, not values.
Whether you're celebrating or simply pausing to reflect, I hope today brings you moments of clarity, compassion, and quiet strength. Because when we walk with intention, we don’t just find meaning. We create it.

🌾 𝗞𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗧𝗮𝗱𝗮𝘂 𝗧𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘇𝗼 𝗗𝗼 𝗞𝗮𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻.
Wishing you a meaningful Harvest Festival.
May the seeds you’ve planted — even the ones that haven’t yet sprouted — bring growth in ways you didn’t expect, but truly need.
This season has me reflecting on what it means to plant with intention and to harvest with humility. Some things I worked hard for bloomed beautifully. Others didn’t. And I’ve come to see that growth isn’t always obvious — and it rarely follows our timelines.
Here are a few reflections I’ve returned to, again and again. Maybe they’ll speak to something in you too.
𝟭. 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗱
The process won’t always go as planned. But when you’re clear on your reason, it helps you stay grounded when things feel uncertain. Intention gives your effort meaning, even without immediate results.
𝟮. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗱
A brilliant idea or effort won’t thrive in depleted ground. That includes your energy, your environment, your support systems. Before pushing forward, pause to ask — what do I need to restore?
𝟯. 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱
So often, we aim for what feels safe or familiar. But a new idea, a conversation, or a different lens can shift everything. Surrounding ourselves with what stretches us creates space for new growth.
𝟰. 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱
Not every win will look like a milestone. Sometimes it’s just knowing you kept going. Let others witness that. You don’t have to walk it alone.
𝟱. 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 — 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝘁
It doesn’t need to be perfect or impressive. Just real. Aligned. Alive. That’s where momentum builds quietly — and meaningfully.
Whatever season you're in, keep tending to what matters. May this season bring you the growth that matters most.

I lost someone I’d known for 40 years. A childhood friendship, gone.
When they first told me they were sick, I asked if they had any words left unsaid. “Yes,” they said, and I saw the weight of that in their eyes.
But when I saw them for the last time, something had shifted. They looked at me with a calm I’d never seen before and said, “If my time comes, I’m ready now. I’ve said what needed saying.”
𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲.
Here was my friend, facing the end, completely at peace because they had spoken their truth. And there I was, thinking about all the ways I still hold back with the people who matter most. The conversations I keep postponing. The things I assume I’ll have time to do.
Death doesn’t just end lives. It reveals the things we keep trying to avoid.
So I asked myself the question that’s been keeping me up at night: If I only had time for what truly mattered, what would rise to the top?
𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲, 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀:
• Relationships where I can be fully myself. Messy, imperfect, real. Where love is honest, not performed.
• Work my younger self would be proud of. Not just impressive, but meaningful.
• Moments of wonder that stop me in my tracks. Laughter, kindness, sunsets that remind me I’m part of something bigger.
• A body I care for like the gift it is. Strong enough to hug the people I love and carry me toward what matters.
• A connection to something greater. Something that makes the hard days bearable and the good ones sacred.
What strikes me is how simple these things are. They don’t need permission or wealth. Just the courage to show up fully to the life I already have.
My friend found peace when they stopped holding back the words that mattered.
What are you still holding back?

If you could lead your life with more clarity, calm, and choice—what would shift?
I just wrapped up my first NLP Practitioner course for 2025, and it confirmed something I’ve felt for a while: this isn’t just about techniques. It’s about becoming the kind of leader who knows how to lead from within.
Over the years, I used to say NLP is great for setting goals, breaking through blocks, and exploring identity. That’s still true. But now, more than ever, I believe it’s about learning to choose—your beliefs, your values, your emotional state, your direction.
Because when you can lead yourself, you show up differently for everything and everyone else.
Maybe you’re someone who wants:
✅ clarity about who you are and what matters most right now,
✅ tools to shift out of stuck states or unhelpful thought patterns,
✅ or simply to reconnect with your purpose in a fast-changing world.
That’s exactly what a group of senior leaders did over the past 6 days—and the breakthroughs they experienced reminded me why this work matters.
I’ll be running one more 𝗡𝗟𝗣 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 course in 𝗤𝟰 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱. And if you’re ready to create meaningful internal shifts—ones that ripple into how you live, lead, and relate—it might be your moment.
So let me ask you: If you could lead your life differently, what would you choose?

For my Muslim friends, the fasting month has ended, and now comes the joyous celebration of Hari Raya. Puasa and Ramadhan hold many meaningful memories for me.
When I was pursuing my PhD at UTM 20 years ago, I had the privilege of truly appreciating Malay and Muslim culture in Johor. My supervisor was a gentle and devout man. I remember a time when a close friend of mine fell seriously ill and needed urgent care in Seremban. I asked my supervisor for some time off, expecting him to remind me about my research deadlines. Instead, he told me to take the centre’s laptop and stay as long as needed to care for my friend.
I still remember his words: “In Islam, it is a blessing to help those in need.” That moment stayed with me—a simple yet profound lesson in compassion. His kindness reminded me that an act of care is not just a duty but a blessing for both the giver and the receiver.
Beyond the academic halls, I was fortunate to be embraced by my Muslim friends, who included me in their daily and family lives. I even joined them in fasting a few times during Ramadhan and shared many warm, joyful buka puasa gatherings. While I often joke that food brings Malaysians together, I truly believe that shared meals and heartfelt connections are what unite us.
This picture of me holding a bag of chocolate dates is a small yet meaningful reminder—gifted to me by a thoughtful friend whose family was celebrating Raya and thought of me too. Small gestures build lasting bonds.
Sometimes, we think leadership and contribution must be complex. But at its core, leadership is about how we connect—heart to heart, guided by the spirit to make this temporary world a little better for those around us and those yet to come.
May we always lead with compassion and connection. Selamat Hari Raya to all my friends!

Whenever I’m asked, What exactly is NLP? I like to answer with a metaphor: 𝗡𝗟𝗣 𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘀𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗺𝘆 𝗞𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱—a versatile set of tools you can use to create meaningful change in your life. Whether you want to communicate better, overcome obstacles, or reach your goals faster, there’s an NLP approach that can help you get there.
Personally, I see NLP as having three powerful aspects that can be applied to both personal and professional development:
𝟭. 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁
One of the biggest challenges people face is not knowing what they truly want or struggling to stay motivated. NLP helps you:
✅ Set clear, compelling goals that align with your values.
✅ Naturally motivate yourself and others toward success.
✅ Find creative solutions instead of getting stuck.
𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲: Imagine a leader who struggles with procrastination. They know they should be working on their strategy, but they keep putting it off. NLP techniques can help them reframe their mindset, activate internal motivation, and eliminate self-sabotaging habits—so they take action with confidence.
𝟮. 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 & 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀
Sometimes, we feel stuck before we even start. Self-doubt, fear, or past experiences can create unconscious barriers that keep us from moving forward. NLP provides techniques to:
✅ Identify and clear limiting beliefs.
✅ Rewire negative thought patterns.
✅ Shift emotional states to feel empowered.
𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲: A manager might hesitate to speak up in meetings because of a bad experience in the past. Through NLP, they can reframe that memory, change their emotional response, and regain their confidence—allowing them to communicate effectively and lead with impact.
𝟯. 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 & 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽
NLP is not just about external success—it’s also about knowing who you truly are and how you want to show up in the world. It helps you:
✅ Discover your deeper values and purpose.
✅ Align your decisions with your identity.
✅ Lead yourself and others with clarity.
𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲: Many entrepreneurs struggle with imposter syndrome, questioning if they are good enough. NLP can help them uncover their core strengths, redefine their self-image, and step into leadership with authenticity and confidence.
If you’re ready to apply these powerful NLP techniques in your life—whether to achieve your goals, overcome mental roadblocks, or step into your true potential—join me for the 𝟲-𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗡𝗟𝗣 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 and start making lasting change.

𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸?
I understand that feeling. Early in my career, I reached a point where it seemed like the path to my goals was blocked by invisible barriers—barriers that I couldn’t see clearly, yet they were strong enough to keep me stuck. I struggled with self-doubt, uncertainty, and an overwhelming sense that I wasn’t living up to my true potential.
Then, I discovered 𝗡𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼-𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗡𝗟𝗣)—a methodology that provided me with the tools to break free from these invisible limits. NLP didn’t just change what I did; it changed how I thought and how I approached every aspect of my life and work. Slowly, the fog of uncertainty lifted, and I began achieving things I had only once dreamed of.
It wasn’t magic—it was the power of mindset and effective communication.
If you’ve ever felt like there’s more within you waiting to be unlocked, then 𝗡𝗟𝗣 could be the key.
Through NLP, you can:
➡️ Uncover and dissolve mental blocks that have been silently holding you back
➡️ Shift your perspective to see opportunities where others see challenges
➡️ Strengthen your communication to inspire and influence those around you
➡️ Cultivate a mindset that propels you toward your goals with unwavering clarity
➡️ Build lasting habits that will carry you toward a future you’ve always wanted
I’m offering this knowledge because I’ve lived it. The tools that transformed my career and my life can do the same for you.
If you’re ready to stop waiting for change and start making it, join me for the 𝟲-𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗡𝗟𝗣 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲. Together, we will work to unlock the potential you already have within.

Last weekend, I delivered a talk on NLP for Productivity, where I shared how Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) can transform the way we work, think, and feel. Here are the key highlights:
𝟭. 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Productivity starts with self-awareness. NLP teaches you to tune into your inner world (thoughts, emotions) and outer world (environment, senses). For example:
• Heighten your 5 senses to stay present and focused.
• Reframe your inner dialogue—swap “I’m overwhelmed” with “I’m tackling this step by step.”
By becoming more aware, you gain control over your mental and emotional states, which directly impacts your productivity.
𝟮. 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆-𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀
Without a clear goal, motivation and energy drop. NLP emphasizes the importance of defining goals in a way that makes them feel real and achievable. Here’s how:
• Use descriptive, sensory language to visualize your goals.
• Break big goals into small, actionable steps.
For instance, instead of saying, “I want to be successful,” try, “I see myself confidently presenting to my team and feeling proud of my work.” This makes your goals more tangible and motivating.
𝟯. 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗟𝗣 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀
Emotions drive behavior, and NLP provides tools to shift from negative to positive states. Key strategies include:
• Anchoring: Recall a moment of confidence and pair it with a physical gesture (e.g., touching your thumb and index finger). Use this anchor to trigger confidence in challenging moments.
• Shift your physiology: Change your posture, breathing, or tone of voice to alter your mood.
For example, if you’re feeling stressed, stand tall, take a deep breath, and say, “I’ve got this.” These small shifts can have a big impact on your emotional state.
𝟰. 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲
Flow is where productivity and creativity thrive. NLP helps you access this state more easily by:
• Recalling past flow states (e.g., a time you were “in the zone”) and recreating the conditions.
• Using visualization to mentally rehearse entering flow before starting a task.
For example, before a big project, close your eyes and imagine yourself fully engaged, relaxed, and productive. This primes your mind for peak performance.

If this resonates with you, I’m running a 𝟲-𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗡𝗟𝗣 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 this April. It’s a deep dive into these tools and more, designed to help you master your mindset, emotions, and productivity.

When we think about productivity, we often focus on doing more—pushing harder, staying focused, and forcing results. But there’s a 𝗬𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 to productivity that’s just as powerful: reducing inner resistance and clarifying your deeper motivations.
Instead of relying solely on willpower, what if you could:
✅ Recognize what’s holding you back—whether it’s mental clutter, self-doubt, or unclear goals.
✅ Connect with your values and align your actions with what truly matters to you.
✅ Tap into your deeper, wiser self to set intentions that feel authentic and sustainable.
One of the most effective ways to cultivate this Yin approach is through 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴. By reflecting on your thoughts and feelings—not just when you’re stuck, but also when you’re in a calm, contemplative state—you can:
1. Identify what’s bothering you and release mental blocks.
2. Clarify your core values and align your actions with them.
3. Set deeper, more meaningful goals that resonate with your true self.
This isn’t about working harder—it’s about working smarter and with greater clarity. As the saying goes, “𝗚𝗼 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁.”
Ready to transform how you approach productivity? Join me for a 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗡𝗟𝗣 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 where we’ll dive deeper into these principles and explore practical tools to help you:
1. Reduce inner resistance and unlock your full potential.
2. Align your actions with your values for greater fulfillment.
3. Achieve more by doing less—with clarity and purpose.
